Any recommendations for an instant coffee?

Right, I'm fed up drinking crappy coffee at home after getting used to the real deal at work [M&S Nicaraguan – it’s unbelievably awesome!] At the same time I can't really justify the effort involved in making ‘real’ coffee for just myself when I’m at home.

 

Can anyone recommend me something that's a bit nicer than Nescafe?

 

OR

 

should I just stop being lazy and stick with the real stuff?

Basically ground coffee in a teabag. About 2 quid per box (20ish bags) in my local supermarket.

Seconded. I have one every morning. It's such a simple idea as well - coffee, ina bag. Like, why isn't more coffee sold like that? You get stacks of different types of teabags, afterall.

Buy a caffetier, hardly any more hastle then a cup of instant coffee.

 

All instant coffee is rubbish, Kenco really rich and blend 37 are probably the best of a bad lot.

Get the real stuff, Instant Coffee isn't even on the same planet as the real thing. Once you have it all set up, shouldn't really take much longer than tea.

 

If you really must drink instant, then Carte Noire, or if you can find it, the legendary Rocket Fuel (not a purist coffee, but brilliant stuff).

Another vote for doing it properly. My coffees at home start out as beans, which I grind as needed and then run through a percolator.

 

If you must "slum it" with the instant, then try the Kenco single origin coffees - I like the Peruvian and Costa Rican ones.

I do like the Douwe-Egberts gold if it has to be instant.

 

Otherwise I grind the beans fine and then load them into the coffee duck which goes in my Phillips Senseo.

We have just run out of Kenco here and they have bought Nescafe instead...which means no coffee for me until it is all gone...partly cos it taste like sh!t bust mostly bacause of this...

I have tried to persuade our supposedly liberal staff (about 99% female) that Nescafe is bad...but they don't care...

 

...then again I can't even get them to care about recycling or turning equipment off...

Instead of drinking it you could try a little practice some of the tribes have in South America - the cocoa bean is ground to a paste and applied under the foreskin. Perhaps that is what Gareth Hunt was alluding to with that hand gesture in the old Nescafe ads.....?!

 

(You youngsters among us will probably have to talk to an 'old' person to find out about the Nescafe ads from the eighties).

They call me a coffee snob here because I've got my own Nespresso machine on the desk (plus one at home).

 

Can't stand that instant stuff (any brand) and much prefer a decent cup of nice tasting coffee. It's almost instant as well since it only takes 30 seconds to make a cup.

 

The downside is that the machines cost a couple of hundred quid but the capsules are only 26p each so comparable with a decent instant brand.

:@cadjs - with you on the Nestle boycott. On which note, all Kenco instants are Rainforest Alliance which I think is better than FairTrade as it also considers the environmental impact.
