What are your thoughts on 'Jade Goody Dying in the media?'

It has divided our office, one half saying it's good to publicise and make aware cancer and she's brave for dying in the public eye, trying to make some money for her boys futures - others saying it's a exploiting a situation and that it's sick.....

What do you think??

All well good to promote the type of cancer to young girls. Its not the main story that annoys me, its the fact that everytime - every single time something happens its in loads of papers. Does anyone really care that her boyfriend took her flowers and he looked sad. Course he looks sad. I've had two relatives die of cancer I don't remember them being on the front page everytime we went to visit them. Ridiculous.

My father in law has recently died of cancer and yes I agree with what you are saying.

It is very sad but we don't need every single thing reported!!!

give them some space.

As a guy whos mum is suffering from cancer I can relate to this issues but also dont agree with the media frenzy , I do however understand Jades reasoning to make as much money for her children as possible!

I would have thought all the media and front page pictures would have just depressed her Family more.

They wouldn't be able to get away from the bad news for even a moment.

I think she is a very brave young woman, I take my hat off for her staying in the public eye to raise awareness and also to financially secure her families future.

I think the disgusting thing is the way the media have jumped on this and makes headlines about anything and everything they can think about - 'Jordan makes up with Jade' - 'Micheal Jackson sends his love to Jade' - Who and what have they got to do with Jade Goody, who cares!!

It makes me sick all the people singing her praises now she's dying, but sl*gged her off when she was alive?!?! Ironic!!!

It's all good and well promoting Cancer Awareness, but to be frank I'm sick of hearing about her. I didn't like her when she first came about and I'm not about to change my mind now. In my eyes it's not front page news. Nor is Michael Jacksons come back tour front page news.

We have troops putting their lifes on the line in Afghanistan, and yes, its 5 years on, but the problem still exists - and that to me is front page news. I want to know how our troops are getting on.

Raised awareness of a horrible disease...

If you dont like the fact theres pictures of her BF in the paper bringing with a sad face, dont 'read' such a crappy 'paper'.

I don't read ANY paper!

but its on the TV news, the radio news etc etc.

Report it yes. but when it gets to the point of 'someone sneezing' then thats to far (IMHO).

As much as Ive always found her a vile human being, its still tragic what has happened to her.

Its good that her case is raising awareness. And theres nothing wrong with doing the wedding etc on TV to earn money for her kids, its not something I would ever want to watch but evidently some did so fair enough.

But after that, and the million or whatever she got from that, that should be it.

The papers should not be reporting on every little thing, and she should not be encouraging it (if she is)

She should be spending her time with her family and the media should f*ck off and leave her alone

And this isnt anything to do with it, but why do people join 'support jade goody' facebook groups and the like? What on earth is that going to achieve?

At the risk of ruining any chance of getting a good deal out of Westwood in the future ;), I still can't stand her. But my Mum's advice of "If you can't say anything good about someone, then don't say anything" and fear of excoriation suggest that I don't say any more.

:peep:

"raising awareness" is probably a good thing but what actually happens? What is anyone more aware of now than they were before? That cancer exists? That cancer can affect young people? That cancer can be fatal?

I'd very much like there to be some focus on how we can prevent cervical cancer. How many of the people calling for awareness raising are aware of the HPV vaccination (which can help prevent it)? How many of those people were actually arguing against the use of it?

Cervical cancer generally affects older women; it's pretty rare in someone so young. There will no doubt be calls for screening to be brought in for younger women. This isn't necessarily a good thing - what appear to be abnormalities can be detected which cause needless worry but turn out to be false alarms - and it will also divert money from possibly more important NHS work.

I think there has been far too much in the papers.

It is her life and all but every "toilet" paper has it on the front and that makes me sick.... there is only one person making a LOT out of this and that is Mr Clifford.

Raised awareness of the disease. Am with her 100% about trying to raise money to support her children when she's gone. I don't think you can complain too much about the press coverage, if we weren't a nation of voyeurs who enjoy watching reality tv, rubbernecking car crashes etc etc then the "press" probably wouldn't of bothered to cover her illness at all.

you might wanna look up what irony means.... :p

Personally I can't stand the woman, and her having a horrible disease hasn't changed that.

Cancer is now so prevelant I don't think you'd find anyone who hasn't had some level of exposure - so I don't really agree with it rasing awareness (when was the last time someone said "cancer? whats that...?")

Mind you its fairly easy to ignore by not reading any newspapers.....

I totally agree!

I have always liked Jade, what you see is what you get. She made the same mistakes as the rest of us, but just did it in the public eye and therefore heavily criticized and magnified.

Cancer runs through my family, my granddad died of cancer, my nan has had breast cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer - my mum and my auntie have both had cervical cancer - so i know what a difficult time it is for her and everyone around her - but surely the fact they have gone public and stayed public, to ensure the future of her children, even though it is probably the last thing she wants shows bravery and the least she deserves is support from the public and media?!

That is why when you make yourself known to the media, you stay known.... through good or bad. I'm afraid I lost the little respect I had for her with her racial outbursts on TV. People seem to forget that.

My heart goes out to her family though, must be very tough like someone said seeing this everywhere, being unable to escape for a minute.
