  1. Have you got LVM setup? What distro are you using? It depends how friendly you want it all to be, Look at LVM Snapshots, Samba VFS modules, Cronning rsync at a push but I'm not sure that will give you what you want. If you've not actually set up the nix box yet have you looked at FreeNAS? Configure FreeNAS to snapshot the backups.

Is your nix volume encrypted? Sophos Bootable AV (SBAV) is based on SLAX so that will read it if it's not encrypted but you'll have to fire it up and 'boot' the CD. Move the VM onto a standalone if you're bothered about firing it up. How do you know it's infected? are you already running AV on it?
  3. We've had a couple of SP4's in for a while. One of the worst pieces of 'flagship' kit I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with to be honest. Crashes/hangs/wont come out of sleep constantly. Docking causes it to hang, undocking drops the network connection, even if left on WiFi. Combined with Windows 10 and all the problems I've had with that it's really put me off. Hopefully this latest update will sort the sleep issue but for a device that's cost well over a grand it's not good enough, our i7 model runs really really hot too. Ironically the i5 lower spec has had less issues over all.
  4. I'm running Sophos UTM. Used an "In Car" Mini PC case, fanless power supply and converter, SSD, Fanless MB mini-itx with dual GB NIC, a 3rd NIC on a flexi cable and 6 GB RAM. No moving parts, no noise. As above supports DHCP and I have a WAP (Unify AC, but I have used a TP-Link one too) 2 ports mapped to be "internal" and one as "wan" so I have the WAP on one internal and one on a switch for wired kit.
  5. You can just do them via PV, https://www6.pearsonvue.com/testtaker/registration/SelectTestCenterProximity/CISCOTESTING/516421 Best creating an account on there if you haven't got one because you can buy a test through it too and just schedule and turn up.
  6. Whoops, / Change the permissions of all the things! If you run a live CD then mount the file system from your VM can you browse it with the CLi/Nautilus (Think its nautilus on Ubuntu I don't use ubu - the file explorer) on your LiveCD?
  7. As above Veracrypt is TC forked and is pretty much the same. I've just deployed Sophos SGN for encryption, it was less than 1k P/A for 50 users. Well easy, centrally managed and you can do remote recovery on it if someone forgets their password. Deployed via GPO and self registers each person as the "owner" of the device if you would like POA. POA will do pass through login using windows credentials so you don't need to have them login twice.

    POE and POE+

Hi, Possibly a dim question, looking at getting some new AP's in that require POE+. The switches I have provide POE and aren't powerful enough. Can I put a POE+ injector on a cable run that is already POE or is it going to damage something? Would the original POE damage the injector? Thanks
  10. I moved to Mac and Linux at home after ending up working with Linux, prefer them both. I would still stick with Windows in a medium size domain environment for end users because at the end of the day IMO its more fit for purpose for most people. OS arguments always get people up. Windows fans always fall back on saying Macs are locked up software and hardware wise which is true, and for £1200 they could at least switch the " and @ round for the UK market. However when people say Windows hardware is fixable it isn't is it. It's the manufacturers certain devices that are fixable. There are now (and becoming more common) plenty of "Windows" machines that are just as unchangeable as the Mac devices, just with Windows you have a choice of what you put it on which is good for domain environments. Mac fans will decry BSOD's, malware etc but lets be honest there's plenty of malicious attacks available for Macs now. Just preference at the end of the day. I used to hate Macs and I now I use one daily, and my media server runs CentOS. In its current iteration I wouldn't touch Windows at home but I'd be mortified if management declared we were getting 100 Macs in at work.
  11. You can on the free home edition so I assume you can on the 'proper' one. If I remember right it was called link balancing when I did it. And your backup link is multipath
  12. Hi, Recently taken over a new network, there is no historic standard email signature. Using Exchange/Office 2010 I want to delete staff's signature's across the domain. I've created a standard one that is applied at the exchange server on send dependant on conditions using some existing 3rd party software. I can disable the signatures via GPO but I want to just delete them or blank them so people can still add "my working hours are" or "if this is regarding x issue then send here instead" etc. Is there a way of doing this or am I looking at login scripts to remove them? Thanks
  13. It's all about smashing a 5mil in with a hammer.
  14. Been through this before, I was told it was to do with Bonjour. Happens at home too. Gave up looking, static, wired, wifi single band etc didn't fix it. If you put a space at the end of the name it stops it happening for some reason.
  15. Not entirely sure where to put this but Im on 2012 so here goes: I've just come back to working in a small Windows environment from a large cluster Linux environment. I'm now the single point of support for a 100user domain. I've used GPO plenty but only needed to do it individually for VClients and remote access machines so it would only effect one box so please bare with me The previous admin has deployed TeamViewer via GPO using an MSi and appears to have deployed it to EVERYTHING including Servers. Can I just disable the GPO? Then look at removing it from the machines? Or do I need to look at removing the application first? All other software apart from Office has just been deployed manually per machine. Thanks Very Much.
  16. Your Website works fine for me, are you using the same machine to view your local and offsite address'? You say it works fine from mobile too. I would suggest the problems you are having are actually local. This may be a terminology thing but why does your current website only work "off site"? Do you have a hosting solution for your ("www.websiteaddress.com") or does this point to your WAMP installation?. If you do have a hosting solution do you not have internet available to certain desktops and want too replicate the site on a server you have locally?
  17. Hi, Has anyone got any recommendations/know of an IP Camera that: Records onto SD card/USB Motion Activated Email a notification/screenshot to a specific address but doesn't need server software or a computer running software to run? I want to be able to plug it into a router for net access and basically leave it unless I get an email but preferably without needing to have a computer running software for it Thanks.

  19. Set up a redirect. So all traffic to http://www.domain.com goes to http://www.domain.com/new We do it, Our old one was in an stmrc directory, Our new one is in stmrc15 directory. Just switched the redirect round for when the new one went live. If youre hosting externally on a hosting provider its usually done in your control panel, or your domain control panel.
  20. If you have linked to a category or section go to your menu item (the item that links to the category/section) "Parameters (Advanced)" at the side. Make sure the top Order is set to "No Order, By Primary Order Only" Then change the "Primary Order" underneath to Oldest First.
  21. If the template itself has the module posistion on the front page already you can just add custom through the module installer which lets you put whatever html you want in but no probably not for beginners I agree. And yea, Im looking at setting up something that actually replaces the video without telling you if you havent got flash aswell, I wasn't keen on putting it on the front page and don't want YOU NEED TO INSTALL FLASH! popping up as soon as someone hits the site.
  22. I used custom HTML Modules to create image links on Joomla St Thomas More RC College THe top buttons are images just in a custom module so you could do it in theory Youd just need a front page centred module posistion
  23. Joomla and community builder for free or Joomla and Jomsocial if you've got some pennies to spend. (Jomsocial is 50-100quid depending on version) i'll 3rd Wordpress and Buddypress too especially for the lightweight load
  24. Hi, I've been asked to look at putting business links on our website, Not adverts as such but a page of "sponsors" or "partners" As a sort of thank you to companies that have helped us for nothing, coming in doing talks or on industry days etc. Does anyone do this and has any one got any examples of it being done? I've been asked before we do it if I can find examples of it being done elsewhere. Thanks.
  25. Yea that sort of thing. Its for indoor home use though so doesnt need to be quite that spec!
