nawbus Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I've just been by the MST site and it's been closed. Kevin has decided to call it a day and left this message - Notice to the MST community MST started in the late 1990’s as a freeware software house. Since then, we’ve kept to our principle. Write useful, free software for everyone. 11 years later MST Software has finally closed its IDE for the last time. Kevin would like to thank everyone who has donated in the recent years – they helped keep MST going for another two years. My promise... I will commit to completing the LanView 4 product. To all those who have donated, I will email you a link to download the final LanView 4 release. This is my way of saying thank you for your help. However, there will be no updates to the product and no method of support. I cannot give an ETA when this will be done. Rest assured, this is not due to financial reasons. I have simply lost the passion for programming. I'd like to say a big thank you to Mike who has been running the ship for the last few years. It’s been a pleasure. Goodbye Kevin All I can do is thank Kevin and everyone who has anything to do with MST, and say that their programmes have been extremely useful to me. I wish Kevin all the best for the future.
Diello Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 He will be sorely missed - Russ & I helped with Kevin at MST a few years ago (the very early days of EduGeek), and it was brilliant to be part of something that has been so useful to so many - LanView is invaluable here too. As for support - don't forget to post here on EduGeek & we'll do our best to help.
pbrian49 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Sorry to see MST go, I find Lanview very useful, in fact I am using it right now. Best wishes to the MST Team
mortstar Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Thanks Kevin for a great product. Lanview & Traffic Lights being used to great effect here as well as saving us plenty of money on electricity bills with scheduled WoLs and shutdowns. Great piece of kit which got me through some very tough times when I was a 1 man band here.
Dos_Box Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I wonder if I can make them an offer on their software and we'll put it into the projects?
Pottsey Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 It’s a shame, I just wish I could have got my school to donate a 2nd time. But they refused
sparkeh Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I wonder if I can make them an offer on their software and we'll put it into the projects? Cracking idea! :)
jamin100 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I use lanview daily here . . . . very sad to see them go!
wesleyw Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I personally donated instead @Dosbox: If you want a donation towards this I would be more than happy to contribute. Wes
Silvor Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Thanks for all your comments. To those talking about maybe making an offer, I very much doubt that Kevin will sell the products.
john Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Such a sad thing, I was just about to sort it for my current place to start using that over messing with VNCs and stuff I grabbed a load of files I wanted last week but not got them all I'd agree with DBs suggestion of seeing if we can do something on here to assist / continue the life of them though. Its such a great set of products and items its worth living on.
bgarston Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I use lanview daily here . . . . very sad to see them go! Same here - all day everyday - it's even a shortcut in my Windows Startup folder!
tomscaper Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I just saw this too, best peice of software i ever donated too. I used it constantly.
Pyroman Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 gutted, been using lanview 3 for the past 3 years now and it's been invaluble shame to see it go
dezt Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Such a shame, without lanview i'd be lost here, cracking tool
JJonas Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Is it still possible to donate or have I missed the chance to do that?
sparkeh Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Is it still possible to donate or have I missed the chance to do that? I think too late as development has stopped, but as the goodbye message said, its not down to financial reasons.
JJonas Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I think too late as development has stopped, but as the goodbye message said, its not down to financial reasons. Thats a shame I would have liked to have got hold of LVM version 4
jamin100 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Thats a shame I would have liked to have got hold of LVM version 4 Me too - I'm still running 3.1.9
nawbus Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 I just hope all the programmes will be made available somewhere on an 'as is' basis as they are so useful.
Silvor Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Hello, People still asking if they can donate - please leave this with me. LanView 4 (as stated on the website) will be available to donators as a thank you, so I can't see why donations can't still be taken until the release of LV4. Donations will still be used for the hosting and domain. I will get back to you about the donations availability very soon. I'll be updating the website myself either tonight or tomorrow.
CSNM-Carl Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Could the source code not be released (or sold) so development can be continued?
d-taylor Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Hi there, Is it possible to donate and get a copy of VNC slideshow? It was something I was hoping to download and get going after we'd got our CC4 problems fixed- unfortuantally these problems are still ongoing! Would love a copy of VNC Slideshow to help me keep an eye on those playing games in the IT Suites. Thanks, Dan
Silvor Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Hello Dan, I've recently updated the website which contains information about donating now.
