The type of train this is based on has a normal operating speed (when on 25Kv) of 100mph. My understanding of the hydrogen train concept is that it would be used for shorter branch lines where it is not economic to electrify. I think the trains would keep the ability to work from the overhead or 3rd rail power supplies as, if I remember correctly, hydrogen is quite energy intensive, and therefore expensive, to produce.

A genuine Swiss Army knife for about £20 - £25 will be fine (said with my Scout Leader hat on!). Just don't buy one from Poundstrecher and the like as they are generally useless!

We're looking at doing the same in the future and I've been looking into this. Apparently Successmaker won't run on Windows Server 2012. We got ours via RM but they no longer resell it and it is now offered by Pearson. It will now be a hosted version. The problem is that it is basically an American product which Pearson are reworking for the UK market and it won't be available until at least the beginning of 2016! I've spoken to one of their reps and their tech support and they basically have no clue about it! We're now looking for a replacement!

Is anyone else using iOS devices and OSX 10.9 machines through an RM Smartcache? Both OS's cannot 'remember' the username and passwords to connect to the Smartcache, which means the user has to regularly put them in to the point of being a PITA! Also OSX 10.9 won't connect to secure sites properly or at all (e.g. app store for OS updates). I've contacted our LEA who supply the Smartcache, but they don't know and they probably won't have a solution as Smartcache is now obsolete! We don't have a transparent proxy either. Hopefully someone must have got the 2 to play nicely together! Thanks

Both West Coast and East Coast Main lines are pretty much at capacity now and because of the nature of their building it is extremely difficult to increase the capacity. Improvements have been made by improving the infrastructure and signalling and by having faster trains, but there is only so much that can be done to the existing lines. Because the lines are shared between fast inter city trains, slower regional trains and freight then this also has an impact. You can only go as fast as what is in front of you! HS2 will cost a lot and may not be pretty in places, but it's better than the equivalent motorway!

From trying to do something similar with a Mac server, I found that it's to do with our firewall. The Mac (for reasons best known to Apple) has to contact Apple's servers which then try to contact to contact your AD Server. Apparently, our LEA block the incoming port used by Apple to authenticate against AD. They tell me when the port is unblocked (don't know which though - sorry) it will work. Haven't done it yet though

Hi all, we've bought a Mac Mini server (OSX 10.7) to control our MACs and iOS devices. I'm setting it up but cannot get it to bind to active directory and also to connect to pull over the users etc. Anyone got any pointers on how to do it successfully? Cheers

That sounds great. Can you push out individual apps to specific iPads or does every app bought / downloaded have to go every iPad? Also, if you want an app to go to 50 iPads, do you have to buy the app 50 times? Cheers

Yeah, I've gone with SmugMug (odd name though!), which seems to be very good. Fotopic's parent company, Snappy Designs, has gone into administration. However, according to Fotopic's previous owner (as read on other forums) there are one or two potential buyers for the business. Not too sure how good a business idea it would be to take on Fotopic given their now bad reputation!

Yeah I'd seen that as well. The trouble is that Fotopic / Snappy Designs are not saying anything at all. Very ppor.

Anyone else here use Fotopic.net for online photo galleries, as it seems to have gone belly up and shows no signs of reappearing? As it appears to be unlikely to come back, does anyone have any suggestions for a self hosted gallery package that offers similar functionality? ta

I'd have to agree with @john. Sony Alphas are very nice & reliable. Got one at home and a slightly better one at work. The Minolta background swung it for me having used Minolta film SLRs for years (and not even close to top of the range ones) and having a nasty experience with a Canon film compact.

That works when I come out of the appliance, so I can update Ubuntu using apt-get update, for example. But when I restart the server so the appliance restarts, it does not have the proxy settings (works fine at home though!). ta

I've downloaded the Turnkey Linux Wordpress appliance so I can create a wordpress site to play with without actually putting it on our webspace. It runs on Ubuntu server 8.04 on VMware player. The problem I'm having is I can't work out how to set up our proxy on it so Ubuntu will see the internet. Anyone got any idea how to do this? thanks
