Gatt Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Artist and children's presenter Tony Hart has died, aged 83. Hart, who lived in Surrey, had suffered from health problems for a number of years, including two strokes. His family said he died peacefully. Mr Hart appeared on art programmes for nearly 50 years before retiring in 2001 because of health problems. He first appeared on Saturday Special as an illustrator before fronting his own shows such as Vision On, Take Hart and Hartbeat. MrEprise Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 The strangest thing about this for me is that I was only looking him up on Wikipedia and Youtube the week before last - after something we were doing with our Art Department, I suddenly started thinking about him, about how he seemed to be still going strong, etc... Just this morning, just as I was waking up I heard my parents mention something about someone previously having strokes (at this time, I had no idea who had died) and suddenly Tony Hart pops up into my mind - not sure why since I can't hear much when i'm asleep. I suddenly start thinking about how he had 2 strokes and how I wished that someone could come up with a way of restoring use of his hands so he could draw and appear on telly again (funny the type of things you think about when you're half asleep) Then I come on here and find out that he's passed away, then realise how strange the mind works sometimes. Like most of you, I also used to watch him alot when I was younger. Tony, you will be very missed.

My dad always had a lot of respect for him, as he used to teach real art, not how to make a 500ft image of a whale out of salt and macaroni. Proof that you don't need to shout at the top of your voice, or dance about like a tit to be a good kids tv presenter.

Hightower Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I told my colleague yesterday "Tony Hart has died, one of my childhood heroes" and he replied with "he was one of mine too" - I'm 24 and my colleague is 51.
