sparkeh Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine has been shortened from "Gattancha" which I used back in my CounterStrike days CS for me too. Originally my nickname at uni was Sparky, but far too many people used it online and at tournies, so it became Sparkeh. Useful as its always free when signing up to sites.
Pyroman Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine came from school, used to make homemade fireworks/explosives (not in a terrorist way, just for fun in the back garden) and it just stuck.
sparkeh Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine came from school, used to make homemade fireworks/explosives (not in a terrorist way, just for fun in the back garden) and it just stuck. Oh wow, for a brief time my nickname was pyromark, however I don't know why as there didnt seem to be a reason for it.
silver_hippo Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I was watching a movie while creating a profile for an online game a few years ago and I saw a silver hippo. I was like BAM! That's me baby (not literally I do try to stay a little fit while fiddling with computers and not violent at all... Unless Mr computer doesn't want to turn on grrrrrr)
Sanguinor Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine was developed from Sanguinius the primarch of my Blood Angels, which is an army from Games Workshops: Warhammer 40'000. And it stuck!
somabc Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Well mine is from Aldous Huxleys 'Brave New World' with my initials added on to make it unique enough that no matter what I sign up to that username is not normally taken. The Meaning of Soma
richard.thomas Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine is very boring. The names I normally use for online things may cause offence so I went for the name my parents gave me
MyDejaVu Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 my nick has been the same since I started using the Internet 12+ years ago, I use it because of two reasons, firstly (obviously) because Lots of premonitions happen to me on a very regular basis, and secondly because its the name of a song from my favorite group, Ace Of Base.
powdarrmonkey Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine's pretty old, as a teenager we'd play msn pirates, boarding other conversations and generally being a nuisance. A powder monkey is a cannon-loading dogsbody, but it needed a nautical twist Arrr!
dhicks Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I wonder how many others have instant recall on their uni number? I do! w9628746. Me too! -- David Hicks
ZeroHour Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 That's interesting, I wonder how many others have instant recall on their uni number? I do! However, I can't disclose it here as I use it for other things - It'd be a security risk I remember my one too
contink Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 In a rather ironic twist I decided to go with something other than my usual nic because I wanted to be able to let loose occasionally without too great a fear of a colleague or client finding said comments and reaching that great mathematical equation of 2+2 and getting it right... but then again, they're not that good Anyhoo... rather boringly this nic came out of my predilection for tinkering with inkjet printers and making them work far longer than Epson or any other money grubbing corporate scumbucket thought "fair" or "reasonable"... I guess you could call me the Robin Hood of the Inkjet world. Yeah, I know... boring but heck the story is better at least
BaccyNet Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I'm not 100% sure how I ended up with mine. Many years ago when I was a wee lad everyone at school would call you by your surname (which proved a problem as my twin brother was at school with me:p) Someone decided to change my surname around a little and somehow came up with baccy. Couple of years later the net bit was added as I joined the wonders of t'internet. No I'm not a keen gardener of certain smokeable plants, nor do I smoke myself so I'm not sure why they came to that name! The things you have to remeber these days.....
Vegas Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Vegas - where I won oodles of cash and slept with show girls......sounds a lot better than the truth - my hockey team mates gave me the name for god knows what reason!!
moiebus Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mis-spelled (deliberately) French comic book artist. Read one years ago...loved it...been using it ever since
Gatt Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 my nick has been the same since I started using the Internet 12+ years ago, I use it because of two reasons, firstly (obviously) because Lots of premonitions happen to me on a very regular basis, and secondly because its the name of a song from my favorite group, Ace Of Base. [OT] Rick!! Hows things - You wouldn't believe the rumours gonig round the school from the kids Hope everything is well! [/OT]
Jobos Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Mine came from our dog that passed away a few years back. His name was Joe but sometimes we called him Bo hence Jobos
webman Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Not quite a uni number, but I remember my Cable & Wireless dialup username from 10 years ago... [email protected]
GrumbleDook Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 It was what I named my first work computer (due to an old joke from army days and a cat called bubbles) and when I went onto usenet and IRC the clients I used pulled the machine name as my nick and it stuck. IRC truncated it a bit so I am known as GDook (pronounced gidook) in some places or simply 'Dook. I have used it so often now that it is interchangeable with my name, even on some professional communities. Heck, people don't recognise me without my face being painted now either!
grumpy_git Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 That's interesting, I wonder how many others have instant recall on their uni number? I do! However, I can't disclose it here as I use it for other things - It'd be a security risk I do; but I'm cheating a wee bit as I'm halfway through a degree at the moment . Err, I'm a chap, and when techie-ing I spend a lot of time on the helldesk. I could have used a couple of other usernames, but prefer a tiny bit of anonymity .
Bezwick Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Back in the early 90's when bands from manchester could be heard in every college. I met a very lovely group of girls who thought i was Bez from the Happy Mondays, it was such a memorable day that i took up the nickname and have been using it ever since.
SpuffMonkey Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I acquired the 'Gonk' name when I was in school. One of my friends decided that I needed a nickname. It was all that he could come up with in 30 seconds.... it stuck Aparently, Gonk was also a Power Droid in Star Wars... http://Http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonk And a popular (usually homemade) cuddly toy in the 1960s
witch Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Not home made to me, this is a gonk! http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:LS5RW4u5fpOIXM:http://www.cwmbran.info/gonk%2520example13.jpg
elsiegee40 Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Not home made to me, this is a gonk! http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:LS5RW4u5fpOIXM:http://www.cwmbran.info/gonk%2520example13.jpg Agree whole-heartedly... that is definitely a gonk as I know it. Very popular in the playground at primary schools about 35 *cough* years ago
WithoutMotive Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Agree whole-heartedly... that is definitely a gonk as I know it. Very popular in the playground at primary schools about 35 *cough* years ago isn't that a troll?
