New Smoothwall - NAT Issues
BaccyNet replied to gumbygaz's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I've just done the same thing today - BTNet and a new S8 appliance. I had to change the gateway on the server (exchange in our case) to the Smoothwalls internal IP otherwise whilst the server got the request it never sent the reply. Didn't have the problem before due to the 'interesting' way the LEA system was setup..... -
Thin Client - Experiences...
BaccyNet replied to heronius's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
We have around 250 of them here (all HP units) coupled to five HP blades running Citrix XenApp. It worked well when it went in seven years ago, however expectation stretched a bit too far (wanting to do video editing/large animation, which just isn't suitable) plus the XenApp license is prety pricey and you do need to keep investing in the servers running it (which for various reasons, we did/could not) so the school would rather reduce the number of them currently in use. It is great for keeping things consistant, easier to deploy software and updates plus as the thin clinets are usually low powered, we managed to stack more into rooms that would have needed electrical work for a standard machine. I'm planning on converting the whole lot over to RDS at some point, even if we shrink the number of devices using it. We do use Citrix for Remote Access too which staff seem to love, so that help me keep them here! -
All being sorted next week thanks, think I was sent the wrong boxes!

Hi everyone I've just taken delivery of two new S8 appliances (well, I think they are, but I'll get to that....) and am now looking at transferring over from my current two UTM1000's. has anyone had any issues with doing this? Any 'gotchas' I should be aware of? My plan is just to restore the latest backup of each unit, fingers crossed! Regarding my first comment - the two S8 units look almost identical to the old UTM's I already have. My account manager confirms they are S8 units however everything says UTM1000 on it (even the LCD when it starts up!) might be me being picky, but I was expecting a new product, not something rebadged (or not as the case may be!) Also I thought the S8 had 16GB of RAM, but the dashboard says 8Gb. Is that right?!? Time for a holiday I think!! Steve

Hitachi ED-A100 Lens door error and door won't close.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind for the future failures as I've already paid for replacement parts on the faulty ones. -

We have had three so far out of the eleven here fail with similar issues - Hitachi don't seem to want to know and the reseller is no longer trading. I have bought two replacement motors from the only UK supplier listed on Hitachi's website but at £75 each plus the time it takes to fit its not proving very fruitful in the long run! @plexer - I have a complete motor unit with a damaged cog if that is of any use? -

All our staff use their own personal apple accounts. They have all been told clearly that they will not be reimbursed for paid apps. I also have a one sided page regarding security, use, etc that they have to sign before they physically get it. -
Is all this on the SQL server or are parts in Facility Admin? The DSN for all our Facility connections here are stored in DSN/CDB files so to point Admin at a different database than your live one we would load up a different CDB file. Sorry if I've not understood - it's been a hectic day!

Hi everyone! Been away from EG for a long while so please excuse what is probably a stupid question We have renewed our EES agreement for another year back in April, since then the school has decided to become an Academy starting from October. Does this affect EES in any way? I'm a bit concerned as the agreeemnt was with the school rather than what will be a newly formed Academy. Just want to make sure before MS come knocking! Many thanks Steve

I'm not currently branded (shirt and trousers as I see fit, although I do wear some spare uniform we had with the old school name on it for holidays) - That said, we are due to go to Academy status soon and the SLT like the idea of me being in some sort of uniform (because people obviously need their IT folk to be visible wherever they are!) I don't have a problem with it as long as I'm included in the decision. Having to wear thick shirts or other similar stuff wouldn't be very practical! I know someone who was asked to wear a cap with the companies name on it whilst in school

ICT Budgets - me/ jumps up and down and does a little dance!!
BaccyNet replied to Pyroman's topic in General Chat
Maintenance budget for my little lot was £1.5k, licensing was £3k (already spent £12k!) nothing for new kit, half the equipment is over 7 years old, some even older. Wahay! -
Can't say I've seen this on the ones we have here (and I'm sure the kids would have let me know!!) Check your video driver, also what version of flash do you have installed?
