Morning all, I visit a local Primary school each Wednesday morning to look after PC problems. I am more of an engineer than Server specialist. This morning I arrived and was told that staff can view but not write to the Public folder. Permissions are "Everyone Full Control". Security is: Admin/Domain Admin/Staff - Full Control Everyone - Read and Execute. The school is using Server 2k3 and Win XP Pro clients. Any thoughts please? Thanks Gary

I have seen it on standalone PC's where it had "taken over" the system. A swift delete and reboot and the computer is usable again. I thought I had read somewhere that it was intended that others could upload from your PC, in the same way that LimeWire works. I am happy to be proved wrong though

UPDATE!! Thanks for the replies. It turns out that we have two variants of Ver2. One has 16mb onboard and the other 32mb onboard. I can find no markings on the cameras telling me they are both ver2 though. I have managed to get the 16mb ones working but the 32mb heaps of smelly stuff just dont want to know. Will not install the drivers, although they are recognised as digi blues. Looks like I will be banging me head again on Tuesday when I go into this school. I may just

Luke, The answer, most probably, lays in the Fn Keys. On the F keys at the top of keyboard you will find a wireless symbol in blue, hold down the Fn key (normally bottom left) and the press the F key. This is probably what was done when you saw the wireless working a couple of days ago. There should be a light on the laptop that comes on when the wireless is available.

Hi all, I have just spent too much time attempting to install Digi Blue Ver 2.0 (still got a Ver 1 to install to ). I can get them installed on PC's and use them as admin, but when logging in as staff or pupils I am told I need admin rights to use them. How do I get round this please? Any ideas and pointers please, before I throw them all out the window. Thanks in advance Gary

Hi all, Have a problem with winsuite 3.51, some of the students can login normally, others login and then get "Show Desktop" opening constantly. So far I have the count of "Show Desktop" at 55 and climbing every few seconds. The student cannot do anything on the machine even though they are logged on. Help please if possible. (Removing Winsuite isnt an option at present!!) Thanks Gary

You could always tell the teacher that if she doesnt like your IT setup, she could move "down the road" to her friends school

You really want to know about me? Jeez Fanx. Got into IT in 1991 when I was in the Royal Navy. Had 30 months administering a UNIX system in the states (try being in charge of a system you have never seen before and the muppets you work with dont want to know). For the past 7 years I have mainly been repairing and fixing standalones. I support two schools in my local area, know very little about servers (at the moment) but I will get there. Is a learning curve supposed to be a vertical line? If I ask a dumb question, just humour me please

Hi, I have a teacher who brings her own laptop with Vista Home Premium installed into school. I have added it to the network so she can use the laser printer. However, when she prints, she gets the first page and the printer alarms and cancels the rest of the print. Whenever she prints to her own printer at home it prints fine Any ideas please? Sorry mate, not quite true. I deal with alot of private customers who are normally on XP. My laptop is Vista Home Premium. I can connect any hard drive, via USB, with password protected accounts and access it. It seems Vista allows access to any drive, havent had one that I cant get into yet. Must say, I do like the ease. Under XP it was a pain and normally had to use GDBNT to access it. OK. I knew it, I shouldnt have posted this. Had my first one yesterday that I couldnt get into.

Must be the thread to place my first posting in and keep with the Norfick boys I support 2 schools near me. Both have winsuite installed (Primaries), not had many problems on either ....yet. However, I have just given two older PC's running XP to one school but cannot get winsuite installed on them. I have connected PC's to network and they see the server fine. But when I run \\server\rollnt$, it comes up with a couple of boxes and then nothing. Left it running for about 10 mins this afternoon to see if it would install. Any help greatly received Gary
