Mine has been shortened from "Gattancha" which I used back in my CounterStrike days :D

CS for me too. Originally my nickname at uni was Sparky, but far too many people used it online and at tournies, so it became Sparkeh.

Useful as its always free when signing up to sites.

Mine came from school, used to make homemade fireworks/explosives (not in a terrorist way, just for fun in the back garden) and it just stuck.

Oh wow, for a brief time my nickname was pyromark, however I don't know why as there didnt seem to be a reason for it.

I was watching a movie while creating a profile for an online game a few years ago and I saw a silver hippo.

I was like BAM! That's me baby :D

(not literally I do try to stay a little fit while fiddling with computers and not violent at all... Unless Mr computer doesn't want to turn on grrrrrr)

my nick has been the same since I started using the Internet 12+ years ago, I use it because of two reasons, firstly (obviously) because Lots of premonitions happen to me on a very regular basis, and secondly because its the name of a song from my favorite group, Ace Of Base.

Mine's pretty old, as a teenager we'd play msn pirates, boarding other conversations and generally being a nuisance. A powder monkey is a cannon-loading dogsbody, but it needed a nautical twist :)

Arrr!

That's interesting, I wonder how many others have instant recall on their uni number? I do! However, I can't disclose it here as I use it for other things - It'd be a security risk :p

I remember my one too :D

In a rather ironic twist I decided to go with something other than my usual nic because I wanted to be able to let loose occasionally without too great a fear of a colleague or client finding said comments and reaching that great mathematical equation of 2+2 and getting it right... but then again, they're not that good ;)

Anyhoo... rather boringly this nic came out of my predilection for tinkering with inkjet printers and making them work far longer than Epson or any other money grubbing corporate scumbucket thought "fair" or "reasonable"... I guess you could call me the Robin Hood of the Inkjet world.

Yeah, I know... boring but heck the story is better at least :getmecoat:

I'm not 100% sure how I ended up with mine. Many years ago when I was a wee lad everyone at school would call you by your surname (which proved a problem as my twin brother was at school with me:p)

Someone decided to change my surname around a little and somehow came up with baccy. Couple of years later the net bit was added as I joined the wonders of t'internet.

No I'm not a keen gardener of certain smokeable plants, nor do I smoke myself so I'm not sure why they came to that name!

The things you have to remeber these days.....

Vegas - where I won oodles of cash and slept with show girls......sounds a lot better than the truth - my hockey team mates gave me the name for god knows what reason!!

It was what I named my first work computer (due to an old joke from army days and a cat called bubbles) and when I went onto usenet and IRC the clients I used pulled the machine name as my nick and it stuck. IRC truncated it a bit so I am known as GDook (pronounced gidook) in some places or simply 'Dook.

I have used it so often now that it is interchangeable with my name, even on some professional communities. Heck, people don't recognise me without my face being painted now either!

I do; but I'm cheating a wee bit as I'm halfway through a degree at the moment :p.

Err, I'm a chap, and when techie-ing I spend a lot of time on the helldesk. I could have used a couple of other usernames, but prefer a tiny bit of anonymity ;).

Back in the early 90's when bands from manchester could be heard in every college. I met a very lovely group of girls who thought i was Bez from the Happy Mondays, it was such a memorable day that i took up the nickname and have been using it ever since.
