Seriously though, all memes aside... It's happening more and more that one single company's services can take down large swathes of the internet.

 

Would never happen, but .. maybe there should be some sort of internet anti-competition/monopolies & mergers commission that could say that whatever CDN/Web Services/DNS services you provide must be shown to always have over capacity (and can consistently prove instant fail-over, with multiple backbones), so that no one companies issues can cripple such a huge portion of the internet's services.

 

I guess for these sort of services such as Cloudflare/AWS there are many advantages to being at such a large scale, but boy when it goes wrong everybody sure knows about it!

Govern what.. about 60% of the Cloud systems and 55% of internet traffic.

 

I'm doing a little thing for the weekly bulletin and most of our external systems use those 4. With the school website being the only exception I can find hosting themselves.

 

That joke about the internet being a tiny black box isn't far from the truth..

Don't think so, although you can always add dependencies yourself. GCP last failed in June
