I was looking for something else mouse related and came across this, a refurbed Microsoft Intellimouse.

 

 

Saying that, it seems that if you have any old Intellimice knocking around it may be time to get them on eBay, they do fetch a decent amount for a 20+ year old consumable. Must be all the people out there making their dream gaming rigs from 'back in the day' from now cheap used parts.

I'd always wanted the Intellimouse with Intellieye (Optical version) when I was much younger. Saved for ages for one and when I had enough money, it'd been discontinued. Sods.

I have one of these in my hand right now. Well, not right now as I'm typing on my IBM Model M keyboard. Also, mine's a kind of off-white beige rather than pristine white - I can't quite tell if that was its original colour or if it's just weathered that way.

I miss mine too (not least because of the current used prices!). It did what it said on the tin and did it well. Great build quality too.

To my great shame I don't know what happened to it, but really do wish I'd kept hold of it. I probaby just binned it when a shinier new mouse came along.

C'mon Micrsoft, do a re-release (at a sensible price) as your current mouse lineup is very uninspiring.

Lovely mice! Both this one and the Silvers you mentioned. Unfortunately I do know what happened to mine - in an attempt to make it "cool" I stripped it down with the intent of spraying it chrome.

The chrome come out fairly poorly and I made the fatal mistake of using nail polish remover to take it off. It melted

I used to have a white one but I think I swapped it out for something else because the jazzy red translucent styling of the base would light up my bedroom in the middle of the night. That was back in the day when jazzy translucent plastic was all the rage, either to showcase optical vs mechanical mouse tracking, or to make a stapler look like it goes with an iMac.

I have one of the various "remakes" that Microsoft made over time. It was horribly cheap feeling, very light and I couldn't get on with it at all. Back in the box it went.

Intellimice were always wicked, the early models were well regarded in the old quake / counter strike scene back in the day as they had/still have a really nice sensor with no correction/smoothing/accel built in which is where a lot of the price bumps came from. I've been using one of the "remakes" at work for the past couple years and it's doing well other than the rubber on the sides getting increasingly harder to clean - serves me well for some lunch time unreal tournament

@jthompson I can feel a 'PC hardware fads and fashion' thread coming on.

I can start with those stupidly tall tower cases (with 'golf ball' power button) loaded up with many 20GB hard drives in removable IDE caddies as you can fit in.

Following on from the comments earlier about DVD,s, then how about the long forgotten (and lamented) MPEG 2 decoder card whch was needed if (back in the day) you wanted to watch DVD's on your PC.

I can't seem to find anyone who makes a mouse with a sensibly-lengthed cable for use with a laptop. I still have a few Logitech M-UV55A mice around, which are great - nice short cable, about half the length of a normal mouse cable so they don't get tangled or sprawl all over the desk.
