So very warm! Summer 2023

Horribly humid around 28C according to my car in west Kent. Can’t move without melting. I was at the rescue this morning which does at least have air con… until you have to work in the outdoor aviaries.

Went for a bike ride at lunch. That was a mistake!

Spent all weekend trying to stop the Greyhounds over heating! Lovely cool towels, fan etc.... meanwhile I'm on the sofa melting!

 

They suffer pretty badly from temperature extremes having very little fur and pretty much zero fat in their skin, plus having been run ragged half their life and then thrown away to live in a shed, the old ones (oldest we have is 9) aren't in the best of health to start with when we get them from the rescue.

 

Luckily (?) they are up at 05:30 for their morning walk, evening one has been put back to 20:00.

It's still hot here in Liverpool, but not quite as hot as last week - and there's also quite a strong breeze. We had a torrential downpour with loads of thunder and lightning on Saturday evening with some more rain through the early hours this morning, so it's been really humid for the last couple of days. More thunder forecast for this evening.

I've just done half an hour in the garden: I uprooted an old tree, lifted an old fish patterned stone and found three other stones buried in the garden by the last owner. I am now dripping with sweat due to the humidity.

Weather said thunderstorms from like 11am until 5pm. So far i've heard one rumble and not a drop of rain. I love a good thunderstorm, this has just been one sticky humid cloudy snoozefest of a day.... to top it off i've spent it making DR policies so I could have done with the odd flash of lighning to keep me awake.

Careful what you wish for. Toward the end of my tenure at my last place, two lighting strikes in quick succession took out our core switch and several of our edge switches a few years ago. What a mess!

Far too hot. Even if I didn't have to protect my burnt skin, I wouldn't be outside in the heat.

 

Over the weekend in SE Kent it was 30 degrees or more. Today has been 29 degrees

 

I have been that sweaty that I could slide down a slip and slide without the slip. Just my sweat would create enough slip for the slide....

Beasty storm here now. Proper deep booming rumbles, forks and flashes, spectacular.

 

We finished our outdoor training about 15 minutes before the rain came, but it was pretty hot at that point - probably dropped 5 degrees.

I jinxed myself lol massive lightning strike right near my house, power spike and my broadband router died.

Panic ye not. I ordered 2 x tower fans today for the kids bedrooms. Last time I ordered a fan for the heat it rained solid for a week (last year).

 

But yeah 30 over the weekend here in South Yorkshire and similar today. What a shame we’ve been looking after a friends house with a swimming pool…!

Well, that was a bad nights sleep! The heat plus very high pollen levels made it very un-fun.

We had thunder but it was just south and east of us, still it managed to rain for about 2 mins later on.

I have to go and check on my brothers Frenchie at lunch (I usally walk him one or two days a week at lunch when my brother has to go into the office). He's not cut out for the heat and he's just going to be let out into the garden and refill his water bowl.

There was a full-on downpour with hailstones just as I was driving home yesterday. From the A316 to the M3 I could hardly see the road edge or lane markings, such was the extent of standing water (more like a shallow river) and spray. Not nice, and max 30mph speed. The noise was incredible!

So far we had missed all the showers, even when forecast we rarely see them and it hasn't rained here now for quite a while.

 

Anyway, thinking I would be very clever yesterday and not return at the end of the day to get in to a sweltering car, I left all the windows open.

 

Completely forgot all about it (even though I had to run around the offices to shut the windows when the deluge started).... To say I feel very lucky that all the electrics still work is an understatement!
