Does everyone break up today?

Hey guys just seeing if you all break up today? and what is the usual thing that happens on the last day? Do you get to skip off early and leave the kids to fend for themselves or do you see the day out and all cheer upon exit.

I would imagine most schools would have either broke up on Friday last week, or Friday this week. 1.30pm finish for us, much to the annoyance of the parents!

School closes tomorrow lunchtime for teachers, students and term time only staff. For us 52 weekers, we only get an extra day off, otherwise school is open!!!!

I find this strange having worked in directly in 4 schools. 3 of them we left early 1 of them normal time. Nothing like building a team spirit with different conditions!

I finish today after 4 Pantos and 5 assemblies (IT out of the window) but my lads are on site Wed-Thur, then working from home Friday so they don't have to use holidays even though site is closed. Back on 3rd, kids back 5th.

 

I know a lot of friends who finish Thursday, but have til 9th off, which I'd prefer!

I am not sure how. For the boyos and girlos breaking up on Weds are thurs and fri inset days for you then?

Not inset, no. Not sure where the extra days in this school year will be here - though 24th July is down as inset currently.

All of my schools finished last week ... Thurs or Fri. I finish today and head to the office for mince pies and a glass of something. Off then until the 3rd when I take on a whole new schedule of schools.

We finished Wednesday last week and then go straight into Christmas closure. Does mean we don't get the change to update trolley laptops. but servers and bits can be done remotely.

Its like that in the school I've just left.

Yes, completely normal. Full time contract meant full time hours - both in terms of days worked as well as hours. Exactly the same as other sectors, and it was how we used to schedule IT or buildings work that would otherwise disrupt services used while students or academic staff were working.

Yeah I never had a problem with that - 52 week contract, far more than minimum PTO, so I have to book school holidays as holidays if I want them off.

 

I could let myself in and work on Christmas Day, if I somehow felt inclined!

I had a full time contract in all schools but 3 out of 4 let full time staff finish early on the days the teaching staff finished early. If I had 28 days leave as I did in one school booking extra time would not be a problem. Sometimes it hard not getting 2 weeks at Christmas as child care is a pain.

In both schools I've worked in, all staff(even those full time) have had some kind of Christmas shutdown. At my previous school term ends quite early in December(private school so odd term dates), so support staff were in for another week. At my current place the shutdown starts the day term ends. There's no expectation to work, and the building is closed completely. However those who which to work remotely are welcome too. SO I usually spend a few days doing server patching and other bits & bobs.

We're off from today. I've worked pretty much all year round so I'm taking the Christmas period entirely off. I love it, because there's no staff onsite, no building works, no contractors & pretty much everywhere else in the country shutdown.

 

It's glorious to have zero obligations, even if it's just for a few weeks!
