Personally, I would say the Nokia range... Either the Nokia G60 or the Nokia XR20 - both under £300.

 

I currently have the Samsung A71, but I've already moved my family over to Nokia's due to the spec, including battery life.

I'd suggest keeping eye on hotukdeals, especially for the Xiaomi deals, I got a good deal on a Redmi Note Pro 10 not long ago, well within your budget

My last phone was a Nokia 7 Plus and the current one is an Ulefone Armor 7e. I'd be happy to go for either brand when I need to. The Nokia is still in use by Mme LeMarchand and is possibly the more "sensible" brand in terms of updates and warranty (I had the power input board replaced within days of the warranty expiring) but some of the Ulefones are great value for money in terms of spec.

This is the correct answer or look at Android One (https://www.android.com/intl/en_uk/one/) for phones that have at least two years of updates (and then make sure you are not purchasing one that was released 2 years ago).

Android One is very dead, all those phones are old

I can recommend the OnePlus Nord 2T - I have the phone myself (albeit the 12GB RAM, 256GB storage version) and it's great. It also only released this year, so in terms of updates, you should be good for a few years.

Thanks. I will be needing a new phone after Christmas and I was going to make sure it was an Android One phone but hadn't actually started looking yet. It looks like it is officially still a thing but, as you say, no new phones have been added. What has replaced Android One? How does one purchase a phone and know that updates are going to be provided for a sensible length of time now?

my last 3 or 4 phones have been xiaomi - redmi note 8 - 10s and have had no issues with any of them - son is still using my old 8 - good battery life, really good camera - have bought from gearbest and waited a month for delivery but can now get them on ebay - just check country version

Lat couple of rounds of phones have been Nokia, running Android One. Not sure what the deal is with Android One is these days, though, but hopefully the Nokia USP of a clean Android image with decent support lifetime is still there.

The Google Pixel 6a looks like it's on sale just now so you can probably get it for near £300. At least then your sorted for timely Android OS updates and patches for a good few years.
