DeGrimmy Posted November 8, 2022 Author Posted November 8, 2022 Yarp sussed this out as well, when I realised that our private wifi range was excluded from the content modification policy it came together. I'll be peeved if they have stopped us from doing this tho, I've had massively inappropriatee adverts come up before a teachers video before in the primary so unless they give us a proper way to buy in Youtube premium We've decided to keep the content modification policy enabled until it is hopefully fixed by Smoothwall, if we can get away with it. Enabling ads would be too intrusive on a lesson.
pete Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Leeds-60. Removing the YouTube advert content mod (with a caveat email that staff pay attention to what they're viewing on screens/projectors) has mitigated the issue. But yeah, we block the adverts for a reason. 1
jerryfudd Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Weird, it works on wifi here as well! That makes no sense, because we don't have different locations set for the wifi. Same here.
kennysarmy Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 We've bypassed our smoothwall and are going direct to SWGfL and are still getting the issue. RM/SWGfL engineer on my PC now remotely and can't see why this would be :/
jerryfudd Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 We had a content modification in place to disable YouTube adverts. Disabling this has fixed YouTube for us on Leeds 63. Cloud filter didn't need any changes. Where was this set? Just taken over a Smoothwall that I didn't install or setup.

RM/SWGfL engineer on my PC now remotely and can't see why this would be :/ Think this was just caching. No issue with direct connection to SWGfL unfiltered. Issue remains a big problem for teachers accessing the internet through the Smoothwall.
tangotech Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 FIXED!! An amendment to the blocklist has been made and tested to ensure that video content does not get incorrectly blocked. This change has been pushed out as an immediate blocklist update. To apply this fix, simply log in to your Smoothwall appliance UI and navigate to System > Maintenance > Licenses, and under Blocklist Subscription click the 'update' button to download the latest blocklist version. 4

Just had the update on our Smoothwall ticket too. This is important too: "On any client machines, please close the browser or else clear the browser cache to ensure no 'broken' YouTube pages are stored." We found that we had to clear the browser cache for the update to take effect. 2
fiza Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Has anyone found that users still need to press CTRL F5 even after this fix and also clearing the browser cache?
lmgtfy Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Yes occasionally, I'm wondering if Smoothwall's web proxy cache needs clearing perhaps. @tangotech can you confirm if this would help please?
DrCheese Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Yes we're getting that still - Even on new videos that no one has tried to watch across the school. It's weird
tangotech Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 I can't confirm this being a fix from smoothwall but when I did this everyone's YT started working.
lmgtfy Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Someone is looking at this today. Hi Tom, Any update on this please? Thanks
drewp Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 We are having problems with embedded YouTube videos in PowerPoints but not when using YouTube in a browser - any one else seeing this?
tom_newton Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 This should be resolved for everyone - sorry I got dragged in another direction last week (See also my job post advertising for a PM...!) - if you are still suffering ping me your support ticket IDs 1
