What digital signage software do you use? What benefits do they have?

We use Raspberry Pies to connect to RiseVision. It's an annual subscription, but makes it easy to centrally manage all the displays around the Academy.

Currently using chromebits with Chrome Sign Builder. Was cheap simple solution as we only had a couple of signage areas to begin with. This has grown over a couple of years and we need something with more features so we're looking at using our AppleTVs. I've heard TrilbyTV and Carousel are good.

We use free version Screenly on Pi's. You can't manage them centrally but we only have a couple

We're using Trilby TV at our school. I think it's quite good - we have a few digital signage screens we had to install the .apk on but we also have a couple of Fire sticks with the app on with our older screens. It's centrally managed and is an annual subscription. I also find it really easy to use and support has been great.

We use Raspberry Pis, specfifically Pi 3s - the Pi 3 can be powered from the USB port available on most newer TVs, the Pi 4 seems to require a bit too much power. I have them configured as a kiosk with a simple script:

...and pointing at a Google Slides document. Free, and easy for admin staff to edit, fitting in to their existing workplace practice and permissions model (i.e. just using Google Workspace). Slides isn't the most flexible of signage software solutions - in kiosk mode, all slides have to have the same transition time, for instance, but mostly it does well enough.

We have about 17 screens using https://www.yodeck.com, very happy. We use RPi's with PoE hats for power as the 4's are hungry. Have a contact of a UK company that can sell the license in GBP and invoice for schools.

Estream is what we have gone for, been very good with us making changes to suit the MAT.

Chrome Signbuilder and either Chromebox or old mini PC with Chrome Flex on. We used to use Xibo which I found great but general staff found it confusing. They're much happier changing the Google Slides that they have been shared.

same here. Nothing wrong with xibo, but windows wasn't that reliable. Slides is much simpler and can be shared with more staff. Don't really have to touch chrome sign builder now. Even doing a new group of screens, I just tend to copy the JSON code from the last one. Unless you want to change the layout and have multiple slides or calendars on screen at once.

We're planning to go with Xibo, some reused TVs from some upgrades elsewhere and some HP USFF PCs brought from @ICTDirect_Dave.

 

Testing has gone very well. Works exactly as designed.

Using Windows and with GPOs etc I can tweak it as I want.

As always with these things content creation is the biggest problem, which isn't an IT issue.

I think we’re now at something like 15 years with Xibo.

 

It’s superb. I’m running an old version on Windows, and it does exactly what I need (showing Powerpoints, images, web pages and video files on rotation).

 

Reminds me - one of the first TVs we put in back then has just died - not bad service!

+1 for Xibo, ours runs in a docker container on a Synology NAS.

 

Spend some time and you can make some seriously impressive looking templates. Basic CSS skills required for the better looking layouts.

 

I made ours with "todays Events" Which is just an ical feed. Then converted our twitter feed into RSS and embedded that too. Along with weather, clock and I literally don't touch it.

I've played with Posterbooking and initial impressions are pretty good if you don't need many screens (it's free up to 10 - but then you might just create a new account....)

 

We also use OneLAN - again this may not be a recommendation.

We use Planet eStream. Quite costly but feature rich. Very happy with their offering to date.

Recently moved from Xibo to Trilby TV.

 

Couldn't ask for anything more from Trilby. Super quick to setup and 'just works'

We use Vivi and really like their central management system and ease of putting content on. You can 'lock down' different permissions so we don't have to always update it for staff too

We use Android boxes with full kiosk browser app and google slides running on loop on each screen, free and works well.

I'm at a non-profit outside of education now but we used Raspberry Pi's (Compute Modules) running PiSignage for central management until a few weeks ago. No issues at all with it until some vulnerabilities were picked up on an internal pen test so moved to Nowsignage which marketing are happy with.
