I'm told there's some software available that allows a teacher to lock a student's pc remotely when the student is misbehaving online (for example).

 

Anyone know of this software? Thanks.

Not used it myself but I believe a lot of schools use Impero for classroom management. I'd imagine it works for remote devices as long as they are part of your fleet with Impero on as it seems cloud based. Although students could just turn their wifi off Edited by RLR

Yes, currently students use a mixture of laptops and desktops on the LAN. Staff need to be able to lock them when they're spotted misusing the pc.

We use Netsupport School for this. The teacher PC has the Tutor Console installed and is linked to the other PCs in the room. The teacher can then lock down PCs, share the teacher PC screen to the other PCs, remotely control student PCs, disable internet access etc.

Those are the three I know of that do this.

 

We used to be on NetSupport (when it was resold as RM Tutor) but moved to Impero about 8 years ago and we're happy where we are.

 

A local school has moved from Impero to Senso but it's clashing with a recent Sophos update, rendering it inoperable as I understand it.

I've used AB tutor but deployed LanSchool at another org.

 

Get a trial of what looks good, test yourself and onboard some willing staff to test and possibly be mentors to other staff.

We use Impero. Really useful for I.T Teachers too as they can broadcast to all student PC's in a classroom and it disables their input so they can't click away or open anything, they can only see what's on the teachers screen on the PC they're using. In terms of misbehaving online, Impero can be configured to pick up any terms, words or searches in any programme or browser that may be inappropriate. Impero will capture a screenshot whenever this happens with details which Teachers or admins with Impero Console access can view. Workstations can be locked and unlocked too and the teacher can take control of the PC completely so they cannot use the keyboard and mouse.

Needs more than software these days, most school work is online now so next they'll be complaining they cannot do their work, so up to teachers to enforce rules and if need be escalate up for behaviour.

Locking PCs, blocking students access isnt going to stop them misbehaving.

We find students on game sites every day, as soon as you are asked to block their access or block one site, there will be another .

Do either of you know if they have a Technician Console that IT can use to view all the IT rooms and computers? We have a rebadged Netsupport (RM Tutor) but being told there's no such thing, yet a quick Google search shows otherwise?

I've been told by key staff students shouldn't be on game sites at all. Yet other teachers say "oh they can go on games if they've been good". Other teachers just let them go wild on game sites in the lessons with no controls.

So much this.

 

If pupils are doing a science lesson, are they allowed freeplay with the equipment/chemicals in a lesson? Are they expected to work until the end of an English or Maths lesson? So why are they ever allowed to "play" with the computers "in lesson time"? Would it happen if a lesson was being observed?

 

Either pupils have lost so much education time during the pandemic that extra tutoring is needed to help recover lost learning, or they are allowed to be completely off-topic on the internet during teaching time.

 

I'm not sure that the gameification of education helps unless GCSE's will be completed on Blooket or Kahoot in future.

 

Sorry, I digressed.

 

We use local server based Impero still, and it works pretty well.

It's a web based version of NetSupport School and DNA all in one. It's pretty good.

Previously used Impero but have worked closely with Senso.Cloud and it's pretty awesome. No system is ever 100% but works for us.

Yeah in one place we had Impero the same way ... When it worked....it worked well.

Netsupport definitely has a technician console that does this.
Thanks. Ours is a rebadged RM Tutor so told them that and sent them the link to Netsupport doc themselves that I found.

 

How well does it work out of interest please?
