I have a desktop PC wired to the network via an IP telephone. The PC is also HDMI'd to a projector via a Smart board. The teacher usually uses the projector in duplicate mode. The odd behaviour occurs when the teacher sends something to the network printer (that is in the same room), it causes the projected image to drift halfway to the left. The "lost" half of the image wraps around and appears on the right. It stays like that until the projector is rebooted. Any ideas what's causing this?

We're using Lightspeed Rocket - I've no idea which version or how old it is; I don't have full access as our IT administration is outsourced - unfortunately our outsourcers are not being very communicative at the moment.

Hi, I'm told that if a student types something like "pipe bomb" into a search engine, an immediate alert needs to be sent to the DSL. Currently we're using Lightspeed but (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think it has this capability. Can you recommend something that would enable this kind of monitoring?

Yes, currently students use a mixture of laptops and desktops on the LAN. Staff need to be able to lock them when they're spotted misusing the pc.

I'm told there's some software available that allows a teacher to lock a student's pc remotely when the student is misbehaving online (for example). Anyone know of this software? Thanks.

Any experience of using the Jabra SPEAK 410 MS? Seems reasonably priced.

The situation I need to provide for is where there are several students in a classroom being taught by a teacher who is remotely logged in to a laptop (in the classroom using Zoom) connected to a smartboard. The students can hear the teacher properly through the smartboard speakers but the remote teacher cannot hear the students because of limitations of the laptop's microphone. What is needed is a microphone that can be connected to the laptop, that is capable of picking up speech from around the classroom. Any recommendations? Or a different solution with, as always, minimal cost involved?

The IT support is outsourced and they are supposed to apply the fileset, but they forget sometimes so it's my job from now on to remind them. Frequently the census data get rejected, I assume because the filesets haven't been applied. The "Capita Chap" doesn't call in often. Thanks for the explanation though, no one seems to have a very complete picture here and if I speak to the outsourcing firm the meter is always running. I do have a myaccount login but for some reason it doesn't always work. I know I'm putting the right credentials in because they are stored in my browser, but I only get authenticated after numerous tries and after having been locked out several times.

Thanks. So is my support unit the Capita chap who drops in from time to time to update the software? What is meant by "the fileset"? Is it a script to update the database? Last question: do I need a "myaccount" login to access the correct part of the Capita website or is open to all? Thanks.

I've been tasked with making sure our SIMS.net system is up-to-date with regard to census patches (I don't actually have to apply them but I have to make sure they have been done if or when needed). Trouble is, I have no idea what this entails. Can anybody tell me how I would find out that a patch is needed? Is there a SIMS web page that I could check for this kind of information? Any other advice/recommendations? Thanks.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. Is there any great advantage in MyConcern integrating with SIMS? I haven't seen any mention of CPOMS integrating with SIMS and wondered whether this ought to be a factor in selecting one or the other system.

This might be the answer, currently the problem seems to be worst first thing and stops the registers being completed. I'd still be interested to know if Delivery Optimisation would help.

I don't think we could do that, staff pcs are all laptops and they take them home at the end of the day. Currently, I'm not sure how the updates are controlled as the server maintenance is outsourced.

Windows 10 updates seem to be taking a long time to install causing staff to be unable to get on with important tasks. We don't have delivery optimisation enabled (peer to peer), would it we worth enabling it (for local PCs only)? I'm loathe to try it without knowing if we'll see tangible benefits.
