The clean installs were done using an install.wim subbed into a windows 10 SCCM task sequence and imported using the education version index.

Exactly what I've done, seems to work absolutely fine this way. Hardware that isn't officially supported, on the other hand... well it's possible with some fiddling!

No SCCM. Guess I could try the WDS equivalent. That said, it's now"adding features".

 

Update: Now on W11 EDU and activated.

Hi all.

 

Managed to upgrade admin laptop and my admin machine, I have managed to get folder redirection but before I attempt this, has anyone got their start menu redirected with their custom folders?

I used it ok in preview with Direct Access. Still work from home and it worked fine.

I’ve been using it now, since 5th and on domain and still not ran into any problems except from pass through authentication not working but that might be fixable 🤞

What do you hate? I moved the start button back to the left and it feels pretty identical to Windows 10 again.

 

The new settings are a big improvement.

 

Can't think of much else that annoys me other than the lack of text labels on apps in the taskbar. I'm sure they will add that option back though at some point after feedback.

I've not been running it 100% of the time, but from what I've seen of it I feel that the start menu is yet another regression. It reminds me too much of the Windows 8 start menu, except that it's not full screen and it doesn't have live tiles. Otherwise, the pinned icons/separate all apps screen is very reminiscent of W8/8.1 and I don't like it. I don't mind its position on the task bar, it's the actual menu itself that's got worse.

 

I mean, the Windows 10 start menu isn't brilliant, but at least it's one click to get to all of your apps and your pinned apps. And to head off the inevitable "Just use search" comments, Search is all very well and good if you know what you're looking for. Sometimes you don't, you might not be able to remember the name of the app that you want or you might be on a computer which doesn't belong to you and you might not know what's installed. Not to mention the fact that Windows search su-diddly-ucks.

Also - Build in Teams client in Windows 11. You can't sign into it with an organisational account. I mean, WTF? Separate versions for home and work accounts. Why?

Not sure about anyone else but I am incredibly happy to have seperation between my work and home accounts. The system they decided on works well so I can login with my personal outlook account as well as work teams if wanted using the seperate app.

 

I would not want them merged or in the same software in any way!

We've been testing W11 on a couple of our laptops, so far we're calling it Windows 10 Big Sur, as it seems more like a Macos theme than a new OS

Installed on an i3 NUC to test SCCM deployment and I’m happy no changes required to my TS (apart form swapping the install.wim for Win 11) even happier the existing credhost changes I have worked straight off!

 

So looks like others have said - Windows 10 reskinned and going to take some getting use to for some staff if and when we deployed it when Windows 10 goes EOL.

So far I have it on all the admin machines (bar one nervous nelly) 3 staff laptops of varying specs and 4 teaching machines. The only gotcha is one I've mentioned in the Windows 11 forum is that an in-place upgrade of an 10N client knocks out some media files which are required for Smart Notebook of all editions.

Great read! I see you have had similar amounts of success that I have. My main concern now is whether my unsupported machines will be offered Windows updates, but on this month's patch Tuesday yesterday, my unsupported Surface Pro 5 did, so I think this shouldn't be too much of a concern for now!

With the exception of a couple of machines - I finally managed to get everything over to the same version of Windows 10 and Office during the summer. So not going to be anytime soon with Windows 11.

I've just noticed this, on the VLSC Windows 11 has the same KMS and MAK keys as 10. So its just intended to activate using W10 KMS keys.
