Did you get notified about that? Or did you have some old ones outstanding to order again?

Has anyone had the DFE email today saying they want to know how many laptops have been sorted?

I'm still in two minds what to do with ours.

Yes we have.

I've had it forwarded to me by the head, today. It seems very pushy considering they are good for another 3 1/2 months. Personally, I don't want to reset any of them before the summer holidays as there is still a chance we may to send them home with children if they have to isolate.

Yes, I've received it too. Currently, our reset number is 0, but as @StevieM says, this is partly because we've got until September. The current plan is to recall most of the DfE laptops over the summer break when Year 7-9 students won't have homework anyway and reset them all then, setting up our own InTune management for them. We still have some unallocated, so we'll reconfigure those before the summer and swap them out Year 10 and 12 students returning school-provided or DfE laptops.

A complete recall of all these laptops is a good idea anyway, as it means we can ensure the best distribution of laptops. Currently we have some PP and other vulnerable learners with very old laptops because as soon as Lockdown 1 hit, we gave them curriculum laptops from the trolleys so this gives us an opportunity to swap those over for the DfE laptops.

Has anyone received a Dynabook Satellie Pro ET10-G-103? its a touch screen Window Tablet.

I have one here with half the drivers missing and they don't seem to exist on the Dynabook website and the support seems non existent, If anyone has the drivers it would be a big help!

I got it. Toying with whether to answer now with 1, or wait until next week when we've started rolling through the loaned devices and the response sounds a little less sarcastic.

We're getting them brought back for resetting on a rolling bases between now and the end of term as the school wants the kids to have the laptops over the holidays (and we have enough summer work already).

Most of our DfE managed laptops are back in, just not gotten round to reinstalling them yet since they will not be needed until after Summer at this rate.

We have over 40 still not returned, emails sent and parents informed. Nothing....

A few that have come back have been damaged with broken screens. Seems some people think its a free gift from the government!

Yep. Management want me to keep emailing them. I'm like.. If they haven't listened by the third email, someone with more clout needs to be getting involved -_-

Most of ours have been returned in good condition, though. 55 returned, only 1 faulty.

We gave a student a curriculum laptop for use during lockdown. The parent returned it the next day because it "has been used" and they wanted one of the free ones from the Government. We took their curriculum laptop back, end of.

We've got a load here. Easiest thing to do is to pull them from another. You can use Powershell of something like DoubleDriver.

Slowly dawning on me that we need to reimage all ours. There's 150 listed on the support portal but the DFE said we have 124 restricted devices so assume SLT ordered the wrong ones at some point!!

"Restricted" wasn't an option with the first round back in July.

We only have 1 here unfortunately so I don't have another I can pull the drivers from, we received a right mix of devices from the DFE.

Is there anyway you could pull the drivers from one of yours and send them to me? if its not too much trouble.

Strangely, I have just heard back from Dynabook and they have given me access to an FTP site with all the Dynabook drivers on. If anyone else needs access let me know!

Yes please, we've got a few Dynabooks. I haven't tried rebuilding them yet so don't know if we have drivers or not!

You can also run the following from a command prompt if like me, Powershell decided it wasn't going to play ball:

dism /online /export-driver /destination:{insert path here}

It's a really nice feature for windows to have built-in as you just point the add new hardware wizard to the folder with all the drivers in, and windows will gradually re-install all of the necessary drivers for that device.

Hi Le_e. The unit was built specifically for DfE so doesn't show on our website but you can access drivers through our FTP client - URL: www.tb2b.eu (if you are using an FTP client, the URL would be: ftp.tb2b.eu )

Contact me for the login information

I hope this helps.

Probably a very dumb question, do we need to follow the reset procedure if we are going to re-image them?

We had some Lenovo 100e devices in our first batch and the factory reset installs a load of bloatware including a McAfee trial. I can remove this as part of an Autopilot deployment but it adds around 20 minutes to the deployment. My thoughts were to just install the consumer version of Windows 10 over the top (hopefully it will activate the license) and just Autopilot from there.

Has anyone been taking in and disabling laptops?

"However [...] many of these devices have now been taken back or disabled by schools."

Well don't :censored: turn off the filtering for them, then?!

We're recalling most of ours, reimaging them onto the domain, and putting them to work as educational resources within school.

We're still offering chromebooks (as they all have a safeguarding extension on them, and work just fine both on and off site) to kids that are isolating, but that does take away from in-school resources. It won't filter their internet, but it'll at least pick up anything dodgy they do go on. A perfect solution? Obviously not, far from it, but it's the best we can do.

They've essentially forced our hand. For us to continue to allow the kids to keep the devices, we'd have to incur significant costs to set up off-site filtering which we just don't have the money to do.

The devices were supplied with safeguarding protections preinstalled on them. Whilst on one hand you could argue it's not fair to say we want the device back, it's also not fair (especially to less technologically-abled parents) to say "That safeguarding stuff? lolbye, go figure it out yourself."

What else are we supposed to do?
