Definitely. As an ex primary teacher, I used to make the 'guess Sir's first name' game as boring as possible. First time I was asked or even on my first day with a class I would tell them and say that we don't use that name in class as a matter of respect.

Hi there, I'm investigating if it is possible to have a pupil enrolled in two registration groups at once. Basically the pupil is in a special SEN reg groupbut will be gradually integrated into one of the main groups. It's going to happen incrementally and depending on how it goes on a daily basis. So some days they will be in one and some days in the other... Any ways of having one pupil show up in two different registers?

That's an idea to try... Thanks. I might have to unplug the PI and take it home - take Smoothwall out of the equation as it is putting extra hurdles in my path!

Hi all, I have a conundrum I am trying to solve. We have a Raspberry Pi running Linutop Kiosk in our reception area to greet visitors. It displays a Google Site and has been working very well. I have just had to re-make the page in New Google Sites as old Google sites is being 'switched off' soon. Basically, when the new page loads, Google's Cookie notification pops up and wants the user to click 'Got It' to dismiss it. Annoyingly though, in Kiosk mode I don't seem to be able to do this. If I click, all that happens is the page reloads. I've tried right/middle clicking as well as ctrl/alt clicking and so on. Each time the page just reloads and the pop-up reappears. Scratching my head to figure out a workaround which doesn't involve starting from scratch with a new Linux flavour. Any ideas/experience/suggestions? Thanks!!

Hi all, Our head has tasked me with sourcing a PA for us to use during sports day. We are lucky to have lots of wide open space and the head wants to commentate on the races as they happen. So, it needs to be loud but also battery-powered as the fields are a fair way away from the school building. This is well reviewed: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bose-S1-System-Bluetooth-Speaker/dp/B07D4JJNSD but doesn't look that large so I am not sure if it will be loud enough. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!

Thanks for all the Purple Mash recommendations. I've always been a bit anti those kind of suites, particularly when I end up teaching the lessons myself. But, the Computingcoordinator is keen on teachers taking more responsibility for their own IT teaching, and I guess PM would definitely help with that.

Hi all, we've been using 2Simple's 2Animate for basic animation projects in Year 2 and 3. It does the job but I'm looking for something similar which is based online so that I can use it on our Chromebooks. Year 2 usually do animations of Tudor houses burning down to tie in with their Great Fire of London topic. I've had a look but what I've found so far is a bit too complicated for the little'uns! Any suggestions? Thanks very much in advance!

We got 40-odd Chromebooks, so I've set up a couple of sets to loan out for classroom use (we are a primary school). Delighted to have them as our class set of Nexus 7 (2012) tablets were very much on their last legs. Only problem I have is humping them around the school - they are much heavier collectively than the tablets and we have lots of stairs. Numerous trips back and forth to the server room at least means I get plenty of exercise (which I desperately need after all the home working!)

A time lapse might be a better idea perhaps. I like the idea of maybe trying to video the hatching and putting that up.

Hi all, One of our teachers will be receiving an incubator and eggs which they will nurture until the hatch into chicks. He wants a 'live video feed' of the eggs. I'm looking for a way to do it easily, which doesn't involve knocking up video servers using Raspberry Pi computers and all that. I've had a look for any websites which do it and there are a few out there which are subscription only. So no good. Google Meets needs us to have the paid for version of Google Education to do a live stream. I had a go with Twitch and couldn't get that going. Installed Yawcam and that can't get through Smoothwall. I think that's going to be an issue with most of the solutions. Any ideas or suggestions. It's a bit of a PITA to be honest and it's for a couple of weeks only.. The teacher has just popped by while I am typing this with a cheery 'any luck?'. Not yet!!! Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Being a primary school we don't have loads of devices out in the wild. I think we've loaned out about 25 off the top of my head. We've had 4 back so far. When they are all back we will find ourselves blessed with about 50-60 Chromebooks (which is nice). Thinking about what best to do with them. We have a couple of Lapsafes which house our Nexus 7 tablets (2012 models). The smaller Chromebooks will fit in these but I don't believe they will charge particularly well as Chromebooks need a higher wattage than tablets. I've dropped Lapsafe a line to see if the safes can be modified at a reasonable price. Otherwise, I might need to get a load of mains adaptors...

I have a spreadsheet on Google sheets which staff request laptops on. I get notified when they make a change to it. I then add the booking to my Outlook calendar and add myself and the booker as attendees. So they know the booking has been made and I get prodded to take the devices to the correct place at the correct time.

We're having issues with the Zoom app not playing nicely with Smoothwall since half term. Can join meetings via the browser (if this has been allowed by the meeting host) but connection always times out when using the app. I'm working from home and can't tinker and test. Our visiting ICT techs are also trying to sort issues remotely. No luck at the moment. I am not a fan (residual I guess from the security issues back last Spring) and would much rather use teams/Meet. Our new head (since Jan) wants to use it for everything though as he is familar with it and likes all the additional features. The workaround we have at the moment is to click a meeting's link, wait for the connection to time out and then click the 'join in a browser instead' button. Really not ideal. We are all at a loss to figure out what has changed since half term

Just finished enrolling our Chromebooks. Had to do it at home as I am Isolating so front room is full of boxes! Very impressed with them though. HP units - dead simple to set up! I am also very pleased that went for these rather than the Win 10 option! Just waiting for the Head to come and pick them up now...

I'm hoping to get my order in tomorrow. Hope to get 30 laptops (or maybe Chromebooks - still can't quite decide) and 8 iPads. iPads aren't available until Monday. Is it possible to place the order in two goes or do I need to do it all at the same time?

Hello there, I was asked to put together an online alternative to our home/school reading record book as they are no longer being sent home. I knocked up a simple Google form to do this. One form for each class. the form has 4 fields. Child's first name, book title, Author and comments. The form feeds into a spreadsheet so the teachers can keep abreast of the children's reading at home. It seems to work very well for most of the users but, following our virtual parent's evening, a couple of teacher told me that a few parents had complained about extreme lag when pressing the 'submit' button on the form. For example I was told that one parent was reporting a 20 minute lag when submitting(!) I believe they are accessing the form on a mobile device. As this has come via the teachers I have no details relating to browsers, OS etc. The parents who had the issues with the form don't want to use it any more. It's so tricky to try to diagnose these kind of issues remotely! I've had a search around to see if there are any solutions. I've come across one or two complaints of similar issues online but no suggestions. Has anyone ese come across this? Does anyone have any suggestions?
