How do they logon to them?

Following the guide in each box, as .\localuser. Everything online anyway here, and their filtering meant we didn't have to bother setting anything extra up here. Been in use a week now, and no issues so far.

I've found the Windows devices we've received auto logon with the .\localuser account, but only until they connect to the internet. After they've been online they try to auto logon with .\localadmin which of course fails. Is anyone else seeing the same?

Not narrowed it down as well as you, but they do occasionally have to switch to localuser. Someone didn't do a good job of that setting!

We had 29 Toshiba Windows laptops delivered to us, tested 1 and it auto logged in etc so decided to just give them out as they are. I've had 4 come back to me where it says it needs an email address and password to sign in (MS account). Has anyone else had this ? Is there anything I can do?

Nope. (Not yet?). Ours were the HPs, though.

Are they definitely putting the .\ in .\localuser?

I'm getting my colleague to check tomorrow morning, I suspect that they are not and this will resolve it but what is throwing me, is that it actually says to enter email address and not a username.

Just tested one of the uncollected ones. If you use something that doesn't begin .\ it says:

You can't sign in with a user ID in this format. Try using your email address instead.

Edit: You may need to provide an annotated picture showing where the \ is on the keyboard!

...and so it begins

You (The UK Govt) gave children a 4G connection on their laptop and didn't expect them to use things like video on the paltry data allowance? Video that your own "National Academy" website uses liberally?

I've just got that email too. Does anyone know how to get a login for the portal? I tried the details I used when placing the order, but those don't work. I also tried the forgotten password option, as I think that was how you had to register for the ordering site, but it said I don't have an account.

Exactly the same here! Can’t get on.

does it say what the data allowance is anywhere?

6GB per month for 6 months. No word yet on how to extend it beyond the 6 months.

Hi

We just received our Dynabook Satellite Pros. Essentially a netbook with Windows 10. Does anyone know the Bios password on them?

I found one without a BIOS password. The rest had passwords, and I was unable to get more info, so I sent those out as they came (after checks)

Well....

There's an official process, which will differ depending what you're of school you are (MAT/maintained) and who the laptop was supplied to (social care or LA). It looks very long and mostly works.

Or, see this post further up this thread:

(But don't tell the students....)

I went through these steps yesterdayhttps://www.computacenter.com/uk/uk/supporting-remote-education-and-social-care/preparing-microsoft-windows-laptops-and-tablets and it worked except when they sent the wrong password but that did get resolved

I thought I'd need the BIOS to change boot order but logging in as the localadmin I was able to launch Windows10 installer and re-install fresh version of Windows.

I received them, I put asset stickers on them, I checked they turned on, I put them in a box, I gave them to the pastoral team.

I got on with others things.

So students are now emailing in saying they can't install Office!!!
