Have today discovered that Bromcom delete posts they don't like from community.bromcom.com. Seems their moderation team might be larger than the MIS development team!!

Blocking Co Pilot for Students under 13
5tu replied to loxford01's topic in AI in Education & Enterprise
This IT Admin-focused workshop walks through how to configure Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, from your tenant all the way to the end-user experience. We cover the latest features now available — including the new 13+ student configuration options, CSV, SDS and Powershell uploads, Copilot agents & extensibility, and updated licensing & security controls. By the end, you’ll be able to confidently deploy, manage, and optimize Copilot Chat in your environment so your users can safely harness AI productivity from day one. -
Good to hear that Safeguarding reports / instant alerts can be configured by the cloud. However, the article you linked to above says it only applies to "cloud only" setups.

Thanks for the response @Joeloman. We're still using a hybrid setup and using Safeguarding reports / instant alerts so this isn't an option.

Just got Smoothwall Cloud Reporting enabled. Looks good but have quickly stumbled across an issue... We utilise on-prem appliance filtering for school desktop computers and the cloud filtering for laptops/ipads. In the Smoothwall filtering logs, users are identified by <domain>\<username> when filtering is carried out by the on-prem appliance, and <email address> when cloud filtering is used. When creating a Safeguarding report in the Cloud Reporting portal, I am only able to specify a single username OR email address. Therefore, I am unable to capture all data for a single user in one report that covers both on-prem filtered activity and cloud filtered activity. We use Smoothwall’s IDex Agent to identify users on desktop devices. Does anyone know if this can be configured to identify users in the <email address> format rather than <domain>\<username> to standardise user identification across both on-prem and cloud filters?

Ours all run Windows 10 LTSB 1809 so they're good until January 2029. I think we'll replace them before then as they are such (overpriced) low spec machines.

You'll need a DHCP server in the same layer 2 VLAN (as there is no ip/routing for that VLAN on the core). Edit: or use a forwarder as @mavhc suggests below

It has been a while, but does SIMS still require SQL to be run in 2012 compatibility mode? If so, what mode is your new SQL server running?
-
Do you have any DHCP services running on any VLANS using the 192.168.x.x subnet? BYOD?

Can these devices connect into your network via VPN?

Is Smoothwall on-prem box configured to send alerts to individual users or an exchange distribution group? -

Blocking Co Pilot for Students under 13

Just looking at this now myself. Thought I'd test a couple of student accounts by manually applying settings in Entra before rolling out org wide via Powershell, but.... on our tenancy the "Consent provided for minor" drop down is greyed out on all Entra user accounts. Anyone else seeing the same? -
Take note Bromcom!

SIMS Next Gen still requires you to run legacy SIMS - it's a bolt-on. So you still have to either host legacy SIMS yourself or opt for SIMS Connected, which is just hosted SIMS accessed via RDP. We jumped ship 6 months ago and haven't looked back.

what a sh1tsh0w - I'm waiting for the "we should have stayed with SIMS" feedback from staff

Seems to be a WSUS issue. Others are reporting the same here

Out of interest, what are you using to manage your Unifi kit? On-prem controller or unifi/hostifi cloud?

Slow User Policies Applying via Intune – Anyone Else Experiencing This?
5tu replied to IanT's topic in Cloud Services
Yep - welcome to Intune. It's for this reason alone all our shared devices are hybrid joined with restriction policies managed by GPO. Only our 1:1 devices are pure Inune managed / Entra joined only devices -
Hi all Has anyone managed to come up with a clever way of restricting Bromcom access via Microsoft SSO to intune compliant devices only? Many thanks

Hi all Following a successful trial using U7-Pro APs, I'm currently planning my first site-wide Unifi wifi deployment. While the U7-Pro performs well I am put off by the internal cooling fan as a point of failure (which the U7-Pro-Max also has). I am therefore considering the U7-Pro-XGS and/or E7 APs which have passive cooling. Do any of you have either of these APs deployed? If so, how do you find them? Many thanks
