paulkerton Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 This thread basically proves that it isn't just a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, but every limb is at it.
FragglePete Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 We received our batch of 13 laptops from the DfE and 6 routers on Monday. And apparently, we have another batch coming in from the LEA next week. Problem is, we've already given out a whole bunch of laptops to the most needed at the start of all this - essentially depleting out stock of laptops anyway. The supplied laptops won't be much use on the domain because of their spec, so really need to decide what we're going to do with them. Swap them out, give to another batch of kids, etc. Just a shame it took so long to get this sorted but I guess notice period was extremely short and it was a logistical nightmare I'd imagine. Does make you wonder how much they paid for these devices? Pete
6Foot2 Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 This thread basically proves that it isn't just a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, but every limb is at it. We have received 0 (none) that I know of. I haven't been told that there are any on the way. I should probably expect a delivery of 50 tomorrow at 4:30 pm to be ready for use on Monday at 8:30 am. 1
hardtailstar Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 We put in a order for 44. Been told today we can only order 20! Not sure if thats 20 in a batch or the LA has deemed we can only have 20. Many emails have been fired off
witch Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 We have been sent 5 including one for a year 6 child who will be leaving in July.
Tones Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 How long has it taken between making the "hey, can we have the local admin and BIOS passwords" request and receiving the information, on average? Sent the e-mail yesterday to Got a response today - they've got the passwords etc in password protected spreadsheets but wanted my mobile number to send the password to. The ticket/files are downloaded from https://support.xma.co.uk/ Went through the reset password options to be able to login. Then the guide to removing the passwords is also on this page: https://www.computacenter.com/uk/uk/supporting-remote-education-and-social-care/preparing-microsoft-windows-laptops-and-tablets So within 24 hours, not bad. :-)
6Foot2 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 The E-Mail arrived today (from the lead school in our MAT) How many laptops? Unknown Which students will receive them? Unknown How do I configure them? Unknown Glad that's all sorted then!
mullet_man Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Is there a reason they haven't come with the full O365 suite rather than just links to the online version?
kennysarmy Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Is it OK to turn these devices on to check they are not DOA before we hand them out to families? Or will turning them on start the setup process? Cheers
Tones Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Is it OK to turn these devices on to check they are not DOA before we hand them out to families? Or will turning them on start the setup process? Cheers There's no setup process, that's already done so when you turn it on it'll auto login as the ".\localuser" and that's it. No harm at all in turning them on to check. 1
LeMarchand Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Is it OK to turn these devices on to check they are not DOA before we hand them out to families? Or will turning them on start the setup process? Cheers Probably best to turn the Chrome devices on to check the Cisco stuff has installed (or not - i still can't get it to take). The W10 ones I tested didn't need any setup, so we just handed 'em out. 1
Boredguy Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Is there a reason they haven't come with the full O365 suite rather than just links to the online version? If the machines are running 10S as they originally suggested, then it can only run the web apps the same as Chromebooks. Also one less thing to worry about needing to have updates applied for.
msi_school Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 I have got my passwords from XMA and one password is wrong
Tones Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 I have got my passwords from XMA and one password is wrong Ouch - I've not tried all mine yet. You going to raise a ticket with https://support.xma.co.uk/ or e-mail them? I suppose if you can't get localadmin access then you can't change the bios options to reset it, guess you'd need to send it back right (providing they hadn't made a mistake in the list of passwords they sent you)?
msi_school Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 I have emailed them I had not seen the portal until just now
foofighterjim Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Woo! Just been told to expect our Win 10 devices next Friday, sounds like we were bottom of the list, that or the LA have had serious logistical issues.
synaesthesia Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Not sure whether to be happy for you or not - the moment we saw the spec of the Windows devices we instantly asked to change to the Chromebooks. 1
andy_b Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Ours turned up today. The laptop cases are far too big and don't secure the laptops at all!!
msi_school Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Our cases are quite nice I am considering keeping them and issuing different ones for the pupils
round2it Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 yes we got some little acer laptops and the cases are quite nice first thing to do is get the bios and local admin passwords and i want to reimage where required
paulkerton Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Toshiba Satellite Pros? Are they the machines you've been provided?!
msi_school Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 We got the bigger laptops and I need to tidy my desk
andy_b Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Toshiba Satellite Pros? Are they the machines you've been provided?! Dynabook E10-G-101 (Toshiba rebranded to Dynabook, apparently - didn't realise tbh) Feel a bit more like Fisher Price
andy_b Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 This is literally the only mention of them on the internet I can find: https://www.lambda-tek.com/Dynabook-CSED942000EN~sh/B44460129 https://www.athema.co.uk/e10-101-csed942000en-wc01-p-1865651.html Definitely not the Satellite Pro's of old.
