Fair enough, I think there is a lot of wild hysteria going around though in regards to H&S and Corona.

I’m sure the families of the worst affected would be overjoyed to hear your opinion...

thanks for all the replys peoples.

You feel free not to follow the expert guidance - guidance is exactly that.

However with the law changing and allowing police to fine people etc...

That said, I'm taking it all very seriously - schools being closed, businesses being closed, the PM briefing the nation nightly - they don't do this over nothing - it has to be incredible serious.

Head told us to stay at home and only come in should there be an emergency! If the servers go down our only reason to really go in would be if Finance or MIS system is down. Everything else is online

So is most of ours. In the event of a power cut nobody and nothing will be working, so don't know what I can be expected to do about that.

90% of stuff can be done remotely.

We are part time sparkies at school! :D so if the power did go off, we would be asked to investigate but as i said, Head has said unless it is the MIS OR SAGE server that goes off which is on a separate ring main and UPS then we don't need to worry.

I went in on Monday and was going to setup a rota. The HT/SBM decided that only those pivotal to the learning of students need to be there.

Which is exactly how it should be. There is no need for us to be on site unless you suspect the system would fail. With under 25 kids turning up a day there should not be any problems. We are officially on lock down people and none of us should be going to work unless we are keeping the NHS > crucial employees at work.

Having spent loads of time getting things set up and trainign staff to use it

Then staff spending loads of time putting together work and putting it on the remote access system

etc etc etc

Has anyone any feel for how much the remote systems are being used. i.e. how many of the kids are actually doing the work as they are supposed to??

There have been several items on the telly about people who are re-creating a school environment in their house and getting kids to do the work - but then people who don;t even try and people who just find it too difficult are not likely to volunteer to go on the news!!

I presume that some systems log when kids access the system and the work they do - are the kids actually doing it??

Clearly this will vary massively between school - just wondering how things are working

Thanks

Mike

We're open for a small cohort of kids of key workers/vulnerable children etc.

As there is teaching going on on-site, one of us is in every day as well, otherwise we're working from home. Currently I'm covering my techs annual leave so in every day, but from next week it'll be 3 days one week, 2 days the other.

I've had remote working set up for a long time so no staff are really having issues, I'm only on-site if there is a fault with a laptop and projection really!

@mikeprice - In terms of monitoring work at our school, we are using Google Classroom more extensively (this is great, as staff are forced to learn how to use it properly rather than just uploading work sheets for homework!).

I'm running usage reports for GC to see which students in an OU have logged in and when, this is shared with SLT and Heads of Year, HoY then contact parents for those that aren't logging in etc. The majority of students are logging in.

Subject Leads are also included on their departments classes and they are in charge of ensuring staff are providing adequate work and routinely checking for completion etc, teachers will see missing assignments too.

SLT understand it's unlikely a student is going to go through and complete the work for a full 5 period day while at home, but they want parents to ensure students are doing enough work for 3 separate subjects a day. Overall, it seems like most students are engaging and doing the work set.

Good to hear it is having being used and at least some schools are mangaing to maintain the kids education

From Monday, my team are now on a rota - 2 weeks on, 1 week off, for the foreseeable future. No point in all 3 of us sitting watching a mailbox for the 6 tickets that'll come in every day.

Plus a Monday AM site visit if it is deemed necessary (which only 1 of my team is actually able to do anyway). I can't see these being very often.

Came in today, first time since Monday AM - only real reason as a staff member dropped off their school loan laptop as they could n't logon to it.

Of course using the details they were emailed I logged on first time!

Done a few bits and bobs in the office but won't be staying long - 6 kids on site out of 1350! Probably more staff in! Saw the head who said he's spending nearly all day just keeping on top of all his emails!

Told me the LEA are keeping a very tight list of which students and staff members are going in each day, which we provide them with.

20 kids in school. I can do 85% of my job from home so only going in for anything physical needing fixing (at moment haven't been in for over a week). Tech company we use have pulled techs on site unless really needed. Just pushed GC out here as well we shall see what the uptake is like.

It's going to be interesting now for examples like this - you've tested it and it logs on fine, which clearly shows it's a user error.

Now if users are jeopardising staff safety through being numpties, what's the outcome going to be?

Me going in?? Zero chance. Moved back in with my folks a few years ago so am absolutely not going to risk bringing anything home to them. They are aware of this at work and are totally onside. We do have a couple of others in our team who are happy to go in if required. Only for back end IT hardware support though. Absolutely no other pastoral stuff or mixing with pupils.

What will they do about leave etc??? No one will want to take leave being stuck at home. May be mandatory leave handed out. We will have to play fair here.

We’re a business looking after a number of primary schools. We’ve encouraged staff to work from home for a couple of weeks. Last week we decided no more onsite visits unless essential. Today the office is closed and it’s ticket only Remote support.

The MD and myself (as a manager) are going to install routers in the last few schools we’re due to onboard as the LA are ceasing all IT support and internet connections in 1st April. I’d rather but it’s not internet after 31st I’d we can’t get in.

Strange times. Gonna be deploying a lot of updated VM’s for the next few months though. Our server game will be strong [emoji2]

BGFL shutdown by any chance?

Asked to go in to sort out ONE laptop for someone. NO. Do they not read the news?

Personally I'll be saying no, no matter what, unless the servers have gone off. I've contacted my union and a law friend or two about the exact requests.

Weren't you complaining in another thread about not feeling part of the team, I may have found the reason (see above)

Seriously the risk is minimal, unless you have very serious underlying health issues I do not see any reason why people can not attend site, I am an insulin dependent diabetic and it doesn't phase me at all as I am effectively isolated, there is more risk to the teachers teaching the kids than to me.

Even if the risk is minimal though, it shouldn't really be done, surely? I like playing maths and odds as much as the next person but if I went to you there is a 1 out of hundred chance theoretically you could catch this or any illness, most of us would say no

I don't think to refuse to put yourself in a potentially dangerous scenario for yourselves and others, is not being part of the team, it may be in SLT's and other eyes but certainly not in mine.

I can understand the view from either side here - I guess a key question is would a trip in be deemed essential? What's realistically achievable without travelling in?
