I know right? Have we really lost those days when "casual bar staff" was really just shorthand for "Lord High Protector of Personal Contact Details and Knight of the Order of the Seven Principles"?!

This virus thing doesn't stop turning our society upside down.

This is not the only occasion that has been reported:

The government’s pledge to deliver a “world-beating” contact-tracing system has been thrown into fresh doubt after it emerged that workers are sharing confidential records on social media.

 

Details of Covid-19 patients are being shared on Facebook and WhatsApp in breach of data protection laws as staff turn to colleagues for help to do their jobs.

 

Screenshots have contained the names, NHS numbers, contact details and case IDs of people who have tested positive for the virus.

 

They were posted in unregulated social media groups.

 

The Department of Health (DoH) has internal systems that allow tracers to call team leaders and clinical leads for advice. But thousands of workers have joined social media groups that act as informal support networks attracting dozens of posts each day...

Changing the subject slightly, if you usually work over the summer, is this back to normal for you or you expect it to be different.

 

For me it looks like typical summer, there are 2 of us on site, plus 3 site team - very easy to social distance and stay safe. In other school not so far away from us, my friend , another Network Manager was told by management team to stay at home most of the time, unless it is absolutely necessary for him to be on site. He got some laptops to do and that is it.

 

How about you guys?

I mean nothings officially been said, but I feel it's a combination of the two really...

 

If you need to be on site for installs/setups etc it's easily distanced. But if all you're doing is remote software/config etc, why not stay away. (Bearing in mind most schools will be having deep cleans/re-arrange for Sep etc)

This might take the thread way off-topic.

 

However, I do normally work over the summer but there is no way I would consider this a 'normal' summer:

 

The school is being 'gutted' for redecoration.

Our IT solution for our classrooms is being changed (laptops connected to the whiteboards in preference to desktops in every room: Staff use their own laptops in each room they go to)

Our main Hall AV will be revamped and two new network rooms added, and one removed.

 

That's just the start, I've a feeling that there will be more.

On working over the summer...

 

Site is supposedly closed from now to the 17th August. There should be no-one there unless absolutely essential. In our admin meeting this morning, we were told though the site will be open on 17th August we will still be expected to work from home where possible.

I couldn't help but smirk when the teacher presented the pupil with a 'Shiny new laptop'. Reminded me of a few Edugeek 'Shiny-shiny' magpie comments! Also, I don't know much this school, but seems to have a fair few 'port-a-cabins'. That aside, I like the presentations and their style for Y7 transition pupils on their website.

The guidance on "face coverings" seems very vague.

but have recently ordered a cotton scarf and a shemagh (hopefully I won't be mistaken for a terrorist). Will these do?

but £15 is a bit expensive for a joke.

 

What I really need is an app with a proximity sensor that i can turn on in the supermarket so that people might get the hint when they get too close. Bonus points if it looks like this.

 

 

Otherwise, next time I go shopping I will be forced to just start shouting "2 (or 1)metres!" or just going "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".

A proximity sensor would be grate for Tesco when you stop at the end of a aisle to wait until it clears a bit - and/or the couple who are occupying the whole damn aisle move out of the way - then some idiot comes up behind you and leans over to get $somethingunimportant

 

Is there one on Amazon that comes with a high power laser or extermination ray???

What a great idea! I may have to get myself a few of those. As well as a face covering, it can protect my bald head from the sun (if it ever returns)! I'm often described as 'the one who looks like a terrorist', anyway.

When you wear a scarf as a face covering, I do hope you will wear your hat too!

And some bandages, a la 'The Invisible Man'.

 

(You should just wear your hat at all times, anyway, as it is incredibly cool!)
