caffrey Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 I was going to say something along those lines.. 1
Ditto Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 It did start with 'all your staff' before slipping in 'leaders and teachers'. Old habits! The gratitude is to all those involved. 2
6Foot2 Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Link: https://twitter.com/_schuermann/status/1239294777452974080 [Picture Tweet] A supermarket in Denmark got tired of people hoarding hand sanitizer, so came up with their own way of stopping it. 1 bottle kr40 (€5.50) 2 bottles kr1000 (€134.00) each bottle. Hoarding stopped! 1
mikeprice Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 French Minister of Youth and Sports, Roxana Maracineanu, has said that the Tour de France could take place but behind closed doors one of the dumbest things I have heard anyone say about this virus situation - and I am including Trumps utterings The most obvious thing is that there are no doors to close - it is held on normal roads through villages, towns etc etc They could trim it down massively - but even with just the riders and essential support people it would still be around 1000 people moving around the country - and that is without looking at how many peopole will tryto watch anyway the more cynical have suggested that, as a lot of the riders seems to be on Salbutamol for their Asthma - then they are in a vulnerable group and therefore should be staying at home!!! 1
Popular Post caffrey Posted March 26, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2020 Helping out staff as best as I can and I got this in an email Nice to have such support, especially as I am just getting used to all this material. You are an asset to the school. I'm having a rough day and that was nice 8

You are an asset to the school. I'm having a rough day and that was nice On the flip side I have found out about an E-Mail sent to another member of staff that complains about me (I won't reproduce it here) I have been trying to help the parent for two days. Only when he sent in the E-mail to complain did he make it clear that he wanted a username and a password for his child's Show My Homework, not Google Suite (the address he was sending to) 2
Dos_Box Posted March 26, 2020 Author Posted March 26, 2020 An interesting video about why some planes are still flying (from a pilot). @ZeroHour and I were having a discussion about this the other day trying to figure out why there were still passenger flights operating:
FishCustard Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 UK has enough intensive care units for coronavirus, expert predicts This from the same team that is advising the Government and produced the initial modelling (Neil Ferguson et al. @ Imperial).
vikpaw Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 (edited) TL: DR the thread, so not sure if this has been posted yet but it’s great. @john tells me @robk and @GrumbleDook will love this CoronaVirus Rhapsody Edited April 5, 2020 by vikpaw 4
LeMarchand Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Bonus Daughter #2, the one that lives with us (still...) has a birthday tomorrow. BD #1, who lives in a nearby city, was on self-imposed self isolation (all the better to protect Precious Grandson) last week - to the extent of please leave the stuff I asked you to pick up on the doorstep. However it seems that birthdays trump lockdown. If she gets fined, i'll bet it won't be her that pays it, either. Does anyone else feel that things are getting like Soviet Russia? Queues for food and restricted travel/police checkpoints (mainly because of people like BD1); we just need to be issued with papers...

Many thinking that one logon is for everything

mikeprice Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 An interesting video about why some planes are still flying (from a pilot). @ZeroHour and I were having a discussion about this the other day trying to figure out why there were still passenger flights operating: The skies are a lot quieter Liverpool airport has pretty much shutdown and F24 oftenb shows naff all over the North West However the route from the USA to Hawaii seems as busy as ever can't see that causing any problems Dunno if it is just that there are less planes overall - but it is easy to spot a fair number of private jets winging around presumably nurses going to work:rolleyes:
mikeprice Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Went out at 8pm to do the clapping the NHS people thing could hear a load of people in the road over the wall (2 cul-de-sacs back to back) - but only us in our road after a short while the people opposite came out as well - they were felling embarassed and didn;t want to be the only ones Maybe next time more will come out actually we could hear lots of clapping from all round - just not many in this road!!!

Isn’t this a very British response? Plenty out in our road tonight.
mikeprice Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Isn’t this a very British response? Plenty out in our road tonight. Yup - both the clapping and the being embarrassed about it! Was going to film it and send it to wife's son. He used to work in the operating theatres at the local hospital but has recently moved to the clinical Education dept. Now he is back on 6 day week and shifts on ICU as ventilators was his main area of expertise - especially with kids
smurfomatic Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Lots of applause in my area (though I could only see one bloke) plus car horns and a couple of fireworks, really uplifting.
Ditto Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Good turn out here. New neighbour is ENT surgeon and several neighbours have daughters who are NHS staff. Quite poignant...
witch Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 Pretty good here too - could hear loads of people clapping and there were fireworks! 1
StevieM Posted March 26, 2020 Posted March 26, 2020 I didn't know this clapping the NHS was even a thing. Heard some fireworks going off around 8, so that was probably why. I thought it was just scally kids. While I was walking to the shop earlier today, I noticed quite a few kids had drawn pictures of rainbows and stuck them in their windows. Is this a thing, too? 1
