I'm not religious and correct me if I'm wrong but does Santa appear in the Bible at all because I'm fairly sure he doesn't? I wonder if VLC still changes its icon nearer Christmas.

He doesn't but Santa Claus is based Saint Nicholas who was a Christian Bishop who wasn't a fat jolly red dressed fellow. Christmas is about the birth of the baby Jesus not Santa.

Christmas is about the birth of the baby Jesus not Santa. Maybe historically, but time has moved on. Christmas has become something other than a purely religious holiday. Its celebrated by people of all sorts of religions, and those without a religion these days. We can reflect on its history, but trying to define what it is today by what it used to be is just being stuck in the past at this point. If we all do that, there's huge aspects of modern life that are based on horrible things from the past. We learn from them, but we aren't bound by those things. Let's all just be merry, be kind to those around us, and enjoy the holiday with friends and family. That's what its about to most these days. 2

If it wasn't for the birth of Jesus then all that it is now wouldn't exist so its not really being stuck in the past just acknowledging how it began. Im in no way religious of any sorts so im not coming from that stand point. we should be merry, kind with family and friends all year round. Some of us really dread this time of year and all that it brings. But as I agree with you @localzuk on many other things that you've posted on Edugeek im going to agree to disagree this one here before we get told off by the mods!

That was awful. I think Christmas has changed so much even in my memory and lifetime, and has become massively more secular. No complaints here.

Religion? Open source software? The reluctance of people to learn about history? In inability of people to accept their ancestors made terrible choices? Writing an editor in JavaScript?
