So they released the Workstation patch which has resolved the issue however now you can no longer re-install SIMS on a computer using Solus3 by simply opening it, clicking the applications tab, selecting SIMS and then saying re-install.

Grrrrr!

Can't say I've ever used that method.... :)

Anyone else having problems exporting individual students' reports as pdfs? Just wondering if it's the Sims upgrade or something else that's suddenly not working? Message says: Error in exporting reports to this location (which hasn't changed from last time I've used it)

thanks

We have updated and also have the print registers issue, which capita have acknowledged is a problem, but as yet haven't offered a solution!

Been putting it off due to these issues, but did it today. Updated today and there's a patch for the workstation printing. It's prompting users to manually install the patch however. But our SIMS support company are on the case.

I have the Autumn update scheduled for after the staff leave (18th) and this is not filling me with hope.

It's 7.190.31.0 without the patch.

It's 7.190.31.2 WITH the workstation printing patch.

Plus ... they HAVE changed the icons as an earlier poster mentioned.

We have done two of our schools now. No issues reported yet. Personally I don't like the change of SIMS icon or some of the icons within the program - looks more retro now.

I see what you mean, only really noticed it today after re-reading this post.

We're going to do our usual thing with the Autumn release - waiting until the teaching staff are playing Christmas films and snoozing their way through lessons stuffed with mince pies. They'll never notice if it breaks.

Will wait for Christmas on this one I think.

Does that not stress you guys out, doing it in the last week before Christmas/last few days of term before Xmas break?

We're doing the update tomorrow across the MAT, so that will be fun.

Hopefully no-one will shout too loudly on Thursday morning :)

Just spoke to my Data Manager who has checked the release notes and she is not fussed about it until 2020, so I'll do it on Monday the 23rd when everyone is off :)

I'll be honest - I hate SIMs updates. Every single damm time there's problems.

We've had an issue where the Autumn version rolls out but doesn't get installed properly and essentially seems to stall during installation. Then the patch for the printing. Then staff who turn machines off, refuse to let me work on their machine with problems. 2-days off this means I can't get on with other work either.

Has anyone had problems deploying Workstation Fix 2?

I updated to Autumn 2019 last night with 20-30 agents offline, no problem.

Deployed Workstation Fix 2 this morning and it's only finding 28 stations to deploy to...

Hi All,

Not sure if you've heard, but there is another patch due soon!

"The DfE's very late changes to the exclusions aspects of their specification are relevant here, which means that the above is only completely achieved in the software after the application of a database patch and series 1400 fileset (to be provided ASAP)."

They haven't provided an ETA for the patch, but are waiting for the DfE to confirm changes before creating/releasing the patch.

Hi all,

Another update from Capita regarding the latest patch, the item's that Capita are referring to are changes to Exclusions in the Spring Census:

Method to be used for implementing the changes

  1. Database patch to deal with items 1 to 4 above.
  2. Fileset 1403 to deal with items 5 to 9 above.
  3. We believe that it is important to deliver the database patch and the fileset at about the same time to avoid incompatibility and the confusion and help desk cases this would generate.

Timetable for implementing the changes

  1. We expect to complete the creation and testing of the database patch during w/b 16/12/2019.
  2. If the DfE provides us with their revised validation and summary report files at the start of next week then we will also expect to be able to complete creation of Fileset 1403 during w/b 16/12/2019.

We're currently having issues where SIMs seems to want to reinstall itself, times out, waits and then trys to reinstall itself again. Then goes in a loop like that.

Anybody getting anything like that?

Looks like my usual plan of hold fire continues to be useful. We plan to do our updates in the final two days we are open. No staff on site which allows us to get everything done smoothly.

Hopefully everything is released by the 18th.

Our plan is:

spring = second week of Easter hols.

Summer = any time after gcse results.

Autumn = 3-5 days before Xmas.

Ans has been our plan for the last 8 years due to these issues.

How do you get on with exam results then - isn't the summer upgrade required for that?

Not for us no, independent school, seems as if we get what we need from spring update....

Anybody getting any weird issues e.g. SIMS seems to be reinstalling itself from the SOLUS3 agent?

The issue we had was caused by our Antivirus Trend picking up SIMs files as a problem our MSP found out! Never seen that before. But sort of funny it thinks SIMs is a virus! :D

Database only upgrade went OK for us, however when attempting to deploy the autumn release SOLUS said it hadn't downloaded all the files and did i want to download again, no matter how many times i said yes, it wouldn't deploy, leaving clients with an incompatible database,#Turned out that for whatever reason solus was 'access denied' to the release update, so had to move the repository to the C drive to deploy the release. Not sure why all other patches downloaded and installed fine including discover, it just wasn't happy with the solus respository location for the main release!
