If you run a normal monthly update patch 1903 will magically change to 1909 and get 30 months support.

1903 is looking solid for us. I might go as far as saying it’s the best Windows 10 build to date.

Interesting. I was planning on staying on 1809 for another year rather than jump to 1903 in the summer but if 1903 does evolve to become 1909 via monthly updates and has 30 months support I might just go for it as all our testing of 1903 has been rock solid thus far....

Have any of you had problems with the entire tile system vanishing in an un activated version of windows 10 ltsc ?

 

All I've done is install basic apps chrome 7zip etc and updates.

 

Not even joined to the domain yet! All the tiles have gone and I just have the start menu (not using classic shell)

We've deployed out Windows 10 Education, mainly because it's that's apparently what it's designed for (debatable). I haven't modified my WIM and use AppLocker to disable access to the built-in AppX apps, however they do still appear in the Start Menu. If you do modify the WIM to remove the AppX packages, they will also disappear from the Start Menu.

We are rolling out LTSC , currently on LTSB2016 and everything seems to be working fine with the new version. Yes its a bit of a pain to install all the "cut back" software, but nothing that cannot be done with GPOs.

I guess it's just like other previous versions of Windows 10, where they drop updates for that version of the OS. I decided to migrate to 1903 because I've read that Microsoft are not officially releasing a 1909 equivilant. Instead 1903 will be patched up to 1909 via standard Windows Updates. I believe it was because of the issues they had with 1809, which caused extra testing of 1903, which in turn kept pushing testing time back. To counter this, there'll be no major Windows release at the end of this year. I believe it goes back to normal next year.

Just enable a feature update and it'll upgrade itself

Same here: we're on 1903 and feature updates are enabled. I prefer to keep it all up to date and security patched rather than trying to test each version. I simply don't have the manpower.

 

Win 10-64 Edu for us throughout the organisation.

Our 1903 roll out as a feature update has gone pretty well - none of the student laptops have done it because being on for 15 minutes at a time won’t allow it to go through, but I’ll get round to those. Combined with a script to kill the junk apps for new users, another to fix the default profile which broke (used for local profiles) and another to remove Windows.old, it has been a success.

I gave up trying to remove windows.old in the end, after 30 days the OS takes care of it and automagically removes it anyway.

My script nukes it pretty reliably, but it takes two reboots to do so. Works in the background after startup.

As I upgrade our W7 estate I have prepared 1903 using OSDeploy from David Segura. We then use PDQ tools to make it all smooth.

MDT deploys the basic WIM and then PDQDeploys our apps.
