kennysarmy Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Accepted it can only install to the default location. Now opens but with this error: [ATTACH=CONFIG]63443[/ATTACH] Tried on another PC and getting the same error. Phoned them on (0)1274 203270 and they are going to look in to it :/
jthompson Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 I've deployed this via GPO, after creating a transform file to go with it that changes Property - CMDLINE to /DEFAULT_INSTALL_DIR="C:\Surpass". That deploys the msi as an assigned application, with the software being installed to C:\Surpass. That has the benefit of allowing the software to be removed easily by taking the GPO away. To run the tests, I've created a generic domain user for the task, with an AppLocker path rule for C:\Surpass allowing that user to run exes in there. The permissions on that folder could also be tightened to prevent other users from writing to it. I think the user account running the software needs to be able to write to the folder in order to faciliate the updates, which is why I've not put it into Program Files. Gotta love how the software has the word "Secure" in its name!
kennysarmy Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 If only I could get passed the Clipboard error
jthompson Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 If only I could get passed the Clipboard error Could it be user permissions on the install location?
kennysarmy Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Could it be user permissions on the install location? Installing and testing as domain admin. Get same error when opening on PC logged in as local admin. Firewall on local PC off. Smoothwall not blocking any traffic. App Policy rules updated to not block C:\Users\Public\Surpass\SecureClient Sophos also not realtime checking : C:\Users\Public\Surpass\SecureClient
mrnoisy Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 I’ve just sccm installed this today, had to do .net framework 3.5 as well, what a joke app it’s still using flash [emoji85]
ndcollegeits Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 You need to run it like this for 'Program files' msiexec /i "SecureClientInstaller.msi" CMDLINE=/DEFAULT_INSTALL_DIR="C:\PROGRA~1\Surpass" /qn However it probably will break at this point because the software wants everyone to be able to update it. I think we ill have to deploy to the default path which I really didn't want to do! 1
mikes Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Not sure about the clipboard error, I'm not getting it here running Sophos and with LEA mandated smoothwall. I installed it to the default location.
kennysarmy Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Needless to say they've not phoned back so I guess I'll be chasing next week
KK20 Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 use the webclient version instead. It failed once on ours so our invigilator put it in the incident report and the user used the webclient version without issue.
ass17 Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 I installed SecureClient last week and I also received the clipboard error. I made sure surpass.com was listed as an authentication exception on smoothwall, installed both the 32/64 bit sql compact software, then rebooted PC. All then seemed fine. 1

I'll try adding as "authentication exception"!
ass17 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Had this from BTL support yesterday I have had confirmation that the clipboard operation error message is due to a task being ran which is stopping SecureClient from checking the clipboard. You can fix this by doing the following; Open Task Manager, click the Processes tab and do the following; kill process- rdpclip.exe then file->new task> type rdpclip.exe -> enter. After that opening SecureClient it will be able to finish its check and start up, if this does not fix the issue you can still use SecureClient, it just wont be able to complete its clipboard cache check which is what prompted the message

Katy Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 I have the joy of setting this up for the Cambridge exams.... they don't give you the link to the download unless you log in, they didn't dish out the logins until this week (during half term), the login went to the exams person, the exams person is off as it's half term. Yay guess I have to rush to do it on Monday.
thimon Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 I’ve just installed the client on some laptops and am leaving the rest for the Exams Officer to do. Does it require us to do more IT tasks / installs?

free780 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Can’t believe this is still being used by exam companies. It broke frequently 2 years ago. I got asked to push this out which seemed a lot easier to manage. https://safeexambrowser.org/download_en.html
ass17 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 And how can you get to Task Manager with the programme (half-open) as it prevents me from getting to any other apps I took it with a pinch of salt when it was sent to me, people using the system are likely to have no access to task manager. When are these people going to live in the real world? [emoji1787]

ass17 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Or do you have a script to kill the rdpclip process and start it again before launching secure assess? Like I said, I rebooted the computers and the error went away.

When are these people going to live in the real world? [emoji1787] Didn't work on our setup anyway, even trying to run rdpclip.exe first as a domain admin we still get the error - - - Updated - - - We're going to give up and just use the HTML client. https://admissionstesting.surpass.com/launchtest The HTML Delivery. Simples.
ICT-Joe Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 (edited) Hi All Don't know if anyone has seen the following link, but it was quite useful if you want to download the assessments early (there's a setting to change the "Advance content download timespan")! https://learn.surpass.com/ Edited October 28, 2021 by ICT-Joe Didn't use end-quote!
flyinghaggis Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 We found that the RDClip error was caused the remote monitoring/control software we had installed locking out the Clipboard. I think the SecureClient tries to lock this and can't because the monitoring software has it permanently open. So if you have Impero, ABTutor, etc it might be worth trying disabling or removing it. We're still experiencing issues trying to get the software to connect to the internet though as it doesn't seem to pick up the proxy correctly....
jthompson Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 IIRC it has a proxy.config file in which you need to specify any manually assigned proxy settings, and the config file has to match the Windows user's proxy settings. If you have a transparent proxy I don't think you need to use the proxy.config file, though. 1
