So far: Brexit Party = On to the fire, Torys = Fire, UKIP = fire, Labour = Still in post pile, Lib Dem = I actually read.

 

I've only ever voted labour but my faith in Corbyn is low so i've moved more Liberal in my old age!

Having previously both worked for a political party, and also have been a councillor for said political party, you get access to the full electoral register. With a bit of data manipulation, you can target voters quite well. Sensible approaches means that you can run suitable messages towards people. e.g. education and childcare to parents, health and pensions to older, support for low income earners to low income earners etc. It's not 100% successful, but can reap rewards in getting key messages out.

 

The full list of people who are entitled to recieve a full copy of the electoral register on publication:

British Library,

National Library of Wales, national library of scotland

the returning officer for each local authority (the person who oversees the election)

UKSA

National records for Scotland

The electoral commission

Boundary Commissions (local and national)

The people who call you up for Jury Service

Elected representatives at all levels

Candidates up for election, including councillors,

political Parties registered locally (upon request)

political Parties nationally (upon request) - including registered 3rd parties (such as independent candidate groups, who haven't constituted as a political party)

Councils themselves

The police, NCA, security services, etc.

 

On top of that, credit reference agencies, government departments and other public bodies can purchase full, or part copies of the full electoral register.

 

So, even if the brexit party were not officially a political party, as they are standing candidates in all constituencies, they would be entitled to that full, unredacted* copy of the electoral roll. They are also permitted to directly address letters, however, you may request for them to stop contacting you.

 

 

 

*there are some who are hidden from certain copies - witness protection etc

Which sort of goes against one aspect of data protection. What if I don't want to be bombarded with these communications whilst retaining my right to vote.

It's a criticism of both I have read very recently in the tetchy exchanges on Twitter etc. I know CHUK were criticised for this back in Feb but that's ages ago now!

Oh yeah, both Change UK (when they were just The Independent Group) and BXP have been talking about being companies. Farage has referred to BXP as being a company with supporters rather than a party with members too.

You can get the information about how many voted after the event. 38.15% in my recent local election.

I'm curious about my actuall ward last time we had Euros they just published the results for the whole of Gloucester.... i want to sample the boxes in my patch.... out of curiosity if nothing else... sad i know.....

 

Edit i just looked and we didnt even publish them as a city i think now from memory the district had to call them in to pourtsmouth where all the South West were collated and the results were published for the seat as a whole which in my case is the South West...

Interestingly we have just got one for my housemate, but not one for me. I guess they are targeting men only with their selection.

probably the first person registered to vote at each address i know thats what my party did or used to in GEs past then the second leaflet would usually have the second person listed on the register

I got an election letter addressed to me from the Lib Dems, but this makes sense as I've done campaigning for them in the past.

 

My wife got an addressed flyer from the Brexs*it party yesterday. Today it's gone back to their registered address in a plain envelope with no stamp.

Got a leaflet through from Tommy Robinson yesterday. Also got my postal vote through. Was sickened to see his name on there. Had to stop myself from spoiling my ballot!!! Instead I settled for drawing a cross over his face on the leaflet.

I'd argue that with the people at the helm of the party, and the candidates they've been selecting, it isn't really overreacting. The Brexit Party is Farage's ego baby, not really about Brexit at all.
