DrCheese Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 How on earth is the Brexit party in any way remotely the same as the Nazi party? It's like comparing the Labour Party with the Communist party of the Soviet union & Corbyn with Joseph Stalin. It's hugely over-reacting and makes deafens people to actual Nazi's

It's hugely over-reacting and makes deafens people to actual Nazi's Did I say they are the same as the Nazi party? The leaflet was described as Nazi propaganda, which, when you compare the sort of propaganda the Nazi's put out, isn't that difficult to see the comparison. I commented on the people they've put forward, and their leaderships. Eg... https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-party-nigel-farage-tommy-robinson-islamophobia-edl-noel-matthews-a8912196.html Plus all the horrendous things Farage has said, done and supported in the past. Such as this: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/19/eu-referendum-campaigning-resumes-as-jeremy-corbyn-and-michael-g2/ You can find near identical talk and publications published by the Nazi's before they gained power. It all starts somewhere. 1

Disease Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 (edited) Calling it Nazi propaganda is laughable, Godwin's law in action. The Nazi killed in excess of 6 million people based on their religion! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law Godwin's law (or Godwin's rule of Hitler analogies)[1][2] is an Internet adage asserting that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1";[2][3] that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Adolf Hitler or his deeds, the point at which effectively the discussion or thread often ends. Brexit Party is not the worst threat to the UK, Corbyn and his policies are more of a threat to the prosperity and security of the UK than Farage as he could actually win an election. localzuk Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 The Nazi party didn't come into existence and immediately start killing people. They existed for years before they gained any power at all. Ignoring how they got to power, and the parallels with our own political situation is naive at best. Labour are calling for more equality, less corruption, better education, better healthcare, less war, more green policies etc... How is that more of a threat than blaming all of our society's ills on the boogeyman, err, EU. The message has been consistent for the last 9 years - foreign people are not welcome here. Muslims are not welcome here. Anyone who disagrees with Brexit is an enemy of the people. Anyone who tries to overturn it is a traitor. Its the exact same rhetoric as used by the Nazis in their early years. 2
Disease Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 You are correct, just like the Nazi party of old, protesting outside schools against the teaching of same sex relationships in 2019, damn the Brexit party......... oh wait it wasn't them protesting it.
Andrew_C Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Godwin's Law was suspended on the election of Trump. I thought everyone knew that? 1
djrscally Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Oooh I just got my leaflet! I am alphabetically the first adult in the household, I'm taking that as 100% confirmation of the theory. I hear that's how sample sizes are supposed to work. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...nd-michael-g2/ You can find near identical talk and publications published by the Nazi's before they gained power. It all starts somewhere. Oh god the power stance. Some consultant somewhere is chuckling in millionaire. 2
elsiegee40 Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 Got one from Ukip today [emoji34] Mr gee40 got one yesterday. As his initial is A, I assume he is falling foul of being first named in the household for all this unwanted propaganda electioneering addressed to him
hardtailstar Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 My mum got one from UKIP today. shes going to send it back to UKIP!
clareq Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 My son-in-law got personally addressed mail from the Brexit party. He is a Dutch national, living and working in Sheffield. It's worth mentioning that he is a PhD, specialising in medical science, and researching for the British Heart Foundation.
Jawloms Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 My Dad got one addressed to him last year. He had died several months earlier and wasn't on the electoral roll anymore. My Mum was rather upset, wrote to the MP in question about it and got no response at all. He hasn't received anything this time round though, I'm tempted to say "yet".
JJonas Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 So I am on the full register along with everyone else entitled to vote but I am also registered with MPS online. Shouldn't political parties be checking the mps list before they mail people?

Shouldn't political parties be checking the mps list before they mail people? No, election law allows parties to send their stuff to voters. MPS does not override this and nor does removing yourself from the public register (the version anyone can see) 1

My Mum was rather upset, wrote to the MP in question about it and got no response at all. He hasn't received anything this time round though, I'm tempted to say "yet". Often parties are only sent around a new list every 3-6 months from each authority, and depending on the format, and is usually on the live party database in 1 week after arrival. All depends on how the changes are made. From experience, it seems that councils are sending updates/updated lists around less frequently than they used to, presumably due to cost. I've also seen that taking people off the full register takes a lot longer than it used to - with deaths meaning they are marked as ineligable for voting, rather than removed instantly from the register...
