Hi thanks so much for your help, I have managed to find the original version that I installed in December of last year which seems to be working ok. It is version 2.0.7.0 (were there any important differences with the new version 2.0.8.9?). I am going to see if I can simple copy and paste this older version onto the schools exams' laptops. If it doesn't work then I will get back in touch with you with the config and ask you to remote in for me.

Thanks very much.

Ok no problem I will provide a full change log from 2.0.7.0 to see if anything is of importance to you, I would suspect yes as there are many bug fixes...

Thank you so much for that information. I definitely realise now that I need the new version, so back to square one I think. If I send you the config details are you free to remote on today at all.

Cheers

At some point I can yes, not sure at the moment, but will be in touch. You can attach it to a post on this thread if you wish as it shouldn't contain any sensitive data. [emoji1]

@ass17 a few questions that may have been answered but can't find them re: entries in the config file

  1. if I want the default save location to be the user's Documents folder?
  2. will the Autosave (ProgramData?) location work with limited users? If not should I go for AppData instead?

Hi,

With regards #1 you either use a UNC network path or if the users documents is a mapped drive use the drive letter i.e H:\

#2 Im pretty sure even limited users need access to the ProgramData folder but if it becomes an issue then by all means point it to the users appdata folder.

The world is your oyster when it comes to which paths to use :-)

Hi,

In the config file that is in the same folder as the EXE file. The config files stores all the defaults or your own custom settings if so requires. The PDF documentation that comes with every version of ExamWritePad will describe to you all the config file settings that you can change.

This looks good , thanks!

We're testing at the moment but our exams officer seems pleased with it, so its passed a pretty stern test there!

I see you are a Google user (at least you use Google Drive to host the app for downloads) and wondered if you'd considered creating a Chrome App version of Exam Writepad? We would love to make use of the kiosk function with our Chromebooks to run an app like this for written exams.

Here's hoping ;-)

Not really thought about it for any other platform, I imagine it would be more complex as my programming knowledge outside vb.net/c# is limited. I will look into readability of this...

Glad you are enjoying!!

Thanks for all you're work, this software looks great!

Our exam laptop set up requires our students to password protect documents or another student could open their file. Is there any way this feature could be added into you're software.

Thanks again in advance.

I knew it would come eventually, so I’m going to have to do it :-)

My plan is to add it in but only active via the config file as usual. I’m going to generate a unique key for each institution, if you loose it, you loose all encrypted work, simple as that, no recovery possible.

I would have to test this feature in greater depth just to make sure it works, as it would need to 100% of the time. But I suppose if it does fail, make sure you have auto backup turned on so that the files are still recoverable in unencrypted form.

Watch this space!!

I'm confused why this is possible, aren't they using different laptops?

Posted

They do use different laptops however the laptops are more often than not required immediately after they have been used for other controlled assessments, internal exams or public exams. Due to the large amount of laptops we have clearing the files off each time is also not a problem.

We are not a traditional school set up so to speak

I'd just have multiple logins, and a script to wipe them at the end of the day once everything's been copied off

This is similar to us. Each student has their own exam login and there is a script that runs when they log off to move their work to a network area so they can't access it again without asking IT.

How would this work with a network install? At the moment, we just run the programme from a network share?

Thanks.

Store the key in the config file and when the user saves the file it will be encrypted to it’s saved location. Should be as simple as that, I hope :-)

Hi ass17,

Thanks for Exam Writepad its incredible useful for our school! Is it feasible to be able to change the Font or Color halfway though the document as its how we need to indicate to our Special educational Needs Officer that the students are using the extra time they have been given.

Thanks again!
