Hi ass17,

 

Thanks for Exam Writepad its incredible useful for our school! Is it feasible to be able to change the Font or Color halfway though the document as its how we need to indicate to our Special educational Needs Officer that the students are using the extra time they have been given.

How would change be instigated? By user? What is the whole process so I can understand your needs :-)

Normally they would be working on the document for an hour then extra time kicks in at which point they need to either change the font or the color of the text to indicate they are using this time. Currently you have the ability to change the font or color but it formats it for the entire document so I guess what I would be asking for is the ability for the user to toggle to another font so when they make changes its very obvious what they have changed during that time. Let me know if that doesn't make sense, Thanks for your time:)

So ultimately the user is responsible for changing the font/colour as an indicator. Right I see, my first thoughts are because it’s an RTF canvas yes that is possible but in reality I’d need to think about what would be best to change.

 

My initial theory would be to click an extra time toggle button and it would set cursor to the end of the document, then swap colour (better indicator than font change visually) of everything written after that point.

 

Does that sound about right to you?

It’s all part of “what if..” scenarios I would test for and see what happens.

 

As time scales go, I’m working on encrypting saved files, which is taking some time. As this is a side project my time varies week to week, so having completed the encryption bit, I would start to take a look at your request.

 

At this point in time I’d say sometime in Jan 2018 at the very very latest. Also when I’m at at stage i can beta copy it over to you for testing your end to see if it suits your requirements, if your willing [emoji1]

I love the work you've done on this and I can't thank you enough for your continued efforts.

 

We're rolling this out for the first time this year and it's working really well.

 

I'd like to make a feature request: We have it set up so that candidate information is filled in when the program launches, after which it asks for save location and file name. The save location is set in config file, would it be possible to set the file name based on the candidate information so that the user isn't required to save at all it's just done automatically?

It will be in the next version, something like "{Name}-{Candidate Number}" or "{Name}-{Candidate Number}-{Subject/Unit Code}"

Would it be possible to include an option to set a password on exit. Some of our students are closing the program and playing with whatever they can find. The account is locked down but it would be nice to keep them in the software.

Shouldn’t see why not, something like config entry called “PasswordOnExit” and if a password is set prompt for password.

Could try to make it work in Kiosk mode. Change winlogin>shell to the writepad exe

Software is working great on most of our laptops, but I've got an issue with one here where it just... doesn't.

 

Same config as the rest of them. Has .NET Framework 4.7.1. But when the program is run nothing happens. I can see the process pop up in the Task Manager but then it quits with no error, nothing at all is displayed to the user.

 

Is there a way I can get it to write a log of what's going on? (Or does it already and I'm just looking in the wrong place?)

 

Scratch that. Completely removed all traces of .NET and reinstalled, it's working now. Something must've just buggered up somewhere with the setup.

Ok, does it work ok if you close all instances and run it only on the one that fails?

 

Are the laptops the same make/model? I just wonder if you cloned a good one over to the failing one, and see if the issue still persists?

 

The software relies on heavily on .NET framework and is compiled on 4.0, if you removed 4.7.1 and go back to 4.6.2 does it work?

 

See what you can find out :-)

It's OK, I got it working. I uninstalled all the net framework stuff and reinstalled from scratch and it launched as normal. Dunno what the issue was but they're needed tomorrow so I didn't really have the time to properly debug it.

Glad to know it’s sorted, I had noticed that 4.7.1 had broken a few other softwares like smart notebook 11.4 so it didn’t surprise me that there could be issues however small....
