Semple1 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Hi, The software seems to crash if students use special characters/symbols such as ©, ® or ° (for degrees temperature in Science exams). The page numbers and line spacing also get confused from this when trying to save. Any ideas? Thanks!

Leave it with me and i'll take a look, chance are I may need to loop through the text and convert the special characters to a reference when saving and convert back when opening. :-)

Ok I think I have now sorted it... as well as a little issue that when TAB KEYING through the Candidate INformation it always missed out the Exam Board. New version coming later today....

Popular Post ass17 Posted May 10, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted May 10, 2017 (edited) Hi Folks, You all will need this version going into exam season, please notes below: Fixed - Finally found why page numbering was still incorrectly being displayed on print outs, this has now been rectified. Fixed - When Setting the config file option to print double line spaced, after each print job had completed it would revert the text on screen from single line to double line spacing. This should not have happened. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Rz5d6Ck6CCRTE4VFFVZllDaGM Edited May 10, 2017 by ZeroHour 12
DJ-1701 Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Exam WritePad... which is typical, as @Boredguy just updated all the exam laptops. Thanks for the awesome work @ass17.
ass17 Posted May 10, 2017 Author Posted May 10, 2017 Your welcome folks, only spotted it today after the final Cambridge Geog exam. 1
ass17 Posted May 10, 2017 Author Posted May 10, 2017 Hi folks, i started a new thread by accident instead of a post. So please now post on the new thread but if you do post here I will still monitor it. New thread is here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-software/184116-exam-writepad-new-version-2-0-8-9-a.html
ass17 Posted May 11, 2017 Author Posted May 11, 2017 Damn you Your welcome, we run ours off the network, so we don't need to do much extra leg work... [emoji1303][emoji1] 1
RLR Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Your welcome, we run ours off the network, so we don't need to do much extra leg work... [emoji1303][emoji1] Same here. Quick question. With each update. Can I use just replace the exe file or does the new update have changes to the config file/dll file?
Boredguy Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Thankfully if it's just the printing side I can just update the network client. I'll update the local version on the laptops as and when I have to set them up (which should just be 3 of them)
ass17 Posted May 11, 2017 Author Posted May 11, 2017 Just EXE only. The DLL is not likely to be replaced ever. With the config, same, but if there is a change the release notes will suggest replacing either file.

That saves faffing around, making sure all the settings are copied over from the old config. And, as always, thanks!!!
RLR Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Random request I had today was a student was unsure how much she was writing because the the software doesn't show pages. I mentioned it tells them the word and character count but that isn't a good indicator. The student likes to go by physically seeing the pages (kind of like a print preview in WordPad). A weird request but is that possible to add - to show pages.

At the moment im not sure why knowing how many pages you have wrote is needed or of benefit. The feature itself is possible as I could simulate a print behind the scenes to get a page count. But the problem arises in that on screen you may wish to type in single line spacing but set the printout to double line, so page numbers would be different from on screen to print.

I thought it was an odd thing to complain about as we have 10+ students using this with no issues. I think this particular student is use to Microsoft Word where what you see on the page is how it prints.

But if you can think of anything else to improve or to add then please fire them over on this thread
Rob_D Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I don't know how easy/possible it would be, but can there be some sort of on-screen indicator that the "Insert" key has been pressed.
mavhc Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Or just disable overwriting, it's useful to literally 0 people (rounded down) 1
