bald_pig Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I'm afraid to do that just incase I end up with hundreds of duplicates, I've logged a call with MLS but no response as yet. We have the hosted version it is so sloooooooooow. Thanks Paul I believe it is supposed to sync with borrowers, but it takes ages 1
ITGuyNW Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 I'm still waiting for an update from the 5th September. We can't do an AD Sync as the html5 plugin doesn't work properly and they've removed the option to switch management back to Silverlight.
bennz Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 maybe @MLS_Graeme can help you out, but I wouldn't hold your breath their support has gone seriously down hill over the past few years and the software has never been much better.
BOOT Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Are they still using that IE Plugin even for hosted?
localzuk Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Are they still using that IE Plugin even for hosted? Yes and no. There is an Azure AD sync option now also - though we can't do it yet here due to internal reasons.
TechMonkey Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 To add insult to injury, their SSL certificate ran out yesterday....
Gurtlush Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Just trying to log it now but getting no response. i assume they don't start till 9am! Can only get a "hi" out of the automated system.
Joanne Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 omg this is too funny. I'm awaiting a panic-ed (how the hell do you spell that?!) phone call / visit from the literacy leader/champion [insert job title here]
TechMonkey Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Just trying to log it now but getting no response. i assume they don't start till 9am! Can only get a "hi" out of the automated system. Interesting, I wonder if they are having issues then. We are having intermittent access issues and assumed someone hadn't paid the bill.
TechMonkey Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 They are claiming it is a client side issue with a cached SSL certificate. SSL certificates don't cache
Gurtlush Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 i think they've fixed it. Our Librarian was told it was our fault. Fortunately i checked the cert before it was fixed .
Joanne Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 Our Librarian was told it was our fault. That's really bad. Why wouldn't you just admit to the mistake? Let's face it, it's an easy one to make!!
synaesthesia Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 So they're lying as well as having generally bad/slow support. Way to go, MLS.
Katy Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 So they're lying as well as having generally bad/slow support. Way to go, MLS. Or, they're so bad at support they actually believe their own lies.
mavhc Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Time to switch to one of the open source systems eg https://evergreen-ils.org/
BOOT Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Time to switch to one of the open source systems I wish. Not my decision unfortunately.
Smee Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I was under the impression that we no longer paid for support from MLS but found out the other day that our Business Manager had taken it upon herself to renew the support contract. She then told me that MLS had advised her that they couldn't offer any support for our onsite version of Junior Librarian anyway as they no longer had a member of staff that could offer support. She also told me its now own by Capita, can anyone confirm this please. Maybe they are just trying to get her to "upgrade" to the reading cloud.
TechMonkey Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 That's really bad. Why wouldn't you just admit to the mistake? Let's face it, it's an easy one to make!! They were trying to say it was an SSL cached on the local machine, but SSL certs don't get cached. It was more than likely they imported the new cert on to one server and forgot a load balance server or some other server in between us and the content. This leads them to deny all knowledge as they have done the update so it must be user error. Being generous you could say it was an honest mistake. Less generous you could say they don't understand either the technologies they are using or the infrastructure of their own systems.
synaesthesia Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 They are indeed now owned by Capita.
mavhc Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 They are indeed now owned by Capita. Maybe they can borrow Capita's partly read "Learn How to Program a Windows 3.1 Application in 24 hours" book then 1
Edu-IT Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 What are the alternatives? Serious question.
mavhc Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 There's Evergreen and Koha https://koha-community.org/ https://www.researchgate.net/publication/266037164_Koha_Evergreen_and_Voyager_A_Comparison_of_Their_Staff_Modules Koha is .nz so might be slightly more like .uk, also web based, play with the demo on their website. Install Debian in a VM and follow https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Debian
Smee Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Has anyone used Abraquest in a primary school? Its cheaper than MLS and looks like it might do the job.
jaminben Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Time to switch to one of the open source systems eg https://evergreen-ils.org/ We're totally fed up with MLS... has anyone tried or is using the above?
