Probably not. Actual 'American Cheese' is a mix of other cheeses, mixed at ratios that promote smooth melting. But they have enough cheese to be called cheese. 'Singles' are very much not-cheese.

It comes to something when - by US standards of labelling and what-is-allowed - that this stuff can;t even be called "American Cheese"

 

sound like something to be avoided - probably even more than I avoid cheese anyway
