lmrogers Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 So with the upgrades to the Lightspeed filters is the plan still to move away from Lightspeed and onto NetSweeper? Or is there now an option to stay on Lightspeed?
SchoolsBroadband Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 The filters have been upgraded in-line with security, feature and stability fixes recommended from Lightspeed which are now workable following changes they have made which is part of our standard maintenance processes on any vendor hardware. We will still be moving ahead as planned though. Dave
lmrogers Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Ah the upgrade to Lightspeed v3 actually fixed an issue I was having with our BYOD wireless and the RADIUS accounting. Will NetSweeper still have the same capabilities for a BYOD wireless network? Obviously with some way to deploy the proxy settings?
SchoolsBroadband Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Netsweeper currently handles BYOD differently to Lightspeed. If you PM @RobMason with a question he can get back to you on any deployment methods in particular and talk you through the best way of deploying BYOD using Netsweeper. Thanks Dave

fiza Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 My fault I was being thick. I was trying to pm @RobMason instead of just RobMason. 1

synaesthesia Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Can't imagine it would be too difficult to have that patched out. Mikrotik routers are the canine's nadgers. 1

SchoolsBroadband Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 (edited) https://www.engadget.com/2018/03/11/sophisticated-malware-attacks-through-routers/ Be interested to hear thoughts on that. Hi @sippo, this is already on our radar. The attack mentioned uses HTTP port access to run the exploit and compromise the routers. HTTP access is turned off on all of our Mikrotik estate therefore our customers can't be exploited by this bug / compromise. End users have no access to the routers either so can't turn this on by mistake. Our latest installs use a firmware where the bug has been fixed. As a precaution we are upgrading customers firmware where required. Thanks Dave Edited March 15, 2018 by SchoolsBroadband
clockend25 Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Just been over to the infant school we support, who are still on Lightspeed, and see Lightspeed has been upgraded. Proper jealous.
hglyde Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 We’re having issues with our connection. Don’t use their filtering though.
Bob_the_Goon Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 We're on filter 11 and we've been down for the past ten minutes or so.
Bob_the_Goon Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Anyone got through to SB support yet? What's the issue?
ChrisC Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Seems more to do with core, as harry mentioned we're on a direct connection and are down at the moment
