How false were those teachers :D

You could almost hear their teeth grinding when they were trying to be nice :D

A whole day to connect a PC to the network - not long enough dammit!!!! It's way more complicated than that - who filled in the report form? How many days was it lost in the internal mail? You need at least 3 days to prioritise the task and carry out risk assessments :D

Don't give up the day job :D

Nice to see a techy program, but surely that PC wifi card issue didn't take that long and abandoning the teacher without a PC on the network isnt right is it?

But well done for being part of it and nice to see Edugeek on show :)

Was that lady at the beginning actually talking to you on the phone or was she talking to herself? The lady that later couldn't find NI numbers in SIMS.

The lady right at the beginning is hilarious

"Hi I'm in the office and having a problem with my computer" - Which office?!

"Yes I have tried switching it off and on" - Somebody has been watching too much IT crowd!

"Can you come and show me?" - Sure, I'll just drop everything I'm doing to come and sort you out this second...not like I'm busy or anything

If that was someone phoning us and our network manager picked up the phone he would go mental!! (He likes things to be organized and insists staff put support requests through the online support helpdesk)

P.S:

Where does one find the money for posh ICT suites full of iMacs :(

Do you actually sit down and meet every morning and go through the list of jobs? Don't you have a help desk solution in place?

Why didn't you punch the guy in the corridor asking for support ;)

Also :

Your Macs seemed to be running Boot Camp on Tiger. Are you going to be upgrading them to Leopard any time soon (Since I believe the beta will not let you create any more Boot Camp partitions?) or look at alternative solutions...

My iMac at home is great as I have Leopard and a copy of Parallels then take advantage of the Spaces feature to stick a full screen XP virtual machine in desktop 2 meaning I can switch between OS X and XP in seconds :D

Howdo fellow EduGeekers.

My senior technician and I will be making an appearance on Teachers TV tomorrow at 11.00am in a programme called "A Day In The Life of an IT technician"

It's thoroughly cringeworthy, but might make you laugh/cry during your tea and biscuits break ;-)

Can't find the give thanks button? So .. thankyou :D lol

I've managed to put together a basic article on Silkysteps using this resource and hopefully it'll have a positive impact for my readers :)

How did you manage to stretch the wireless card thing out for a whole day? I commend you on your procrastination skills ;)

Very good though. Thanks for the plug... even if you didn't mention us by name :(

Howdy

Thanks for your comments..

I did big up Edugeek a lot, both in the interview and throughout the course of the two days(!) they were here filming..they cut some stuff out...

The wireless card took about half an hour, but they wanted extra stuff so some of it was kinda staged.

the bit at the start was supposed to be a mickey take of the stereotype of it technicians relationships with end users..no-one actually talks to us like that!!!

other questions raised...

Where does one find the money for posh ICT suites full of iMacs

Leased

Do you actually sit down and meet every morning and go through the list of jobs?

No. Staged

Don't you have a help desk solution in place?

Yes we do.

Why didn't you punch the guy in the corridor asking for support

Staged.

Nope. Leaving them on Tiger for the time being.

Nice one! Well done. I thought the IT Teach looked a bit of a dick - in reality of course it'd be him getting advice and asking questions. Yes there needs to be prioritising the needs of the school over the purely technical, but it's a thin line that needs consideration. Edited by MkII

I enjoyed it. Maybes just as well it was staged - you've got a projector to setup before 9:00 for assembly and its 10:05 on the clock in the background (3mins 15 secs) :p

That's an amazing spot!!!

However that clock hasn't work in months I think. Is it ticking in the vid?

Are there Macs on this prog then ? If so, I'm not watching it - I'll start to feel all dirty and will need to shower 5 times a day...

Plus Macs should be only shown after the 9pm watershed..... ;-)

haha..
