The game will be broadcast on BBC One and also streamed live on iPlayer. Our experience of similar broadcast events is that schools might potentially experience slower than normal performance on their local connection, when using the internet should a large number of live streams be running simultaneously. Though the RM Core network capacity will not be affected, for those schools planning on streaming the match our advice would be consider streaming the match to a central, or a small number of locations, rather than streaming to individual devices. mulderite Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 We're setting up four viewing areas and projecting it onto screens. To try and alleviate internet usage we're blocking access to iPlayer on all classroom workstations during the match, but I'm sure we'll still get the "spinny-wheel of doom". Personally, I'm going to stay in the office and enjoy a few hours of peace whilst everyone is watching the game.

DSapseid Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Ive been asked to put in on the projector in the main hall after school so the kids (and staff) can watch the second half before going home. Luckily i have a freeview box connected to the projector in the hall but fully expecting the internet to get hit at 2.00!
mulderite Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 I wonder if the people at K-COM have pulled their 'uber-fast' lever this morning? One thing's for sure, we certainly won't be ringing them if the internet connection dies a death this afternoon. We'll just get the usual stock response of "There's no issue at our end that we're aware of..." and then 5 minutes after calling them everything suddenly goes back to normal. Funny that.
FN-GM Posted June 16, 2016 Author Posted June 16, 2016 We are doing a test right now to see if the internet can cope. We have about 50 classrooms streaming it and according to Smoothwall we are using about 120mbs of bandwidth. All working ok
Bagpuss66 Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Streaming video is blocked for the students but the teachers will be able to show the game on their desktop computers projected onto our promethean boards. Also setting up a projector and screen in the sports hall.

Areku Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 luckily we have a tripleplay IPTV server on site, basically it will take a stream (from Freeview TV, yes we have the licenses) encode it, and rebroadcast it over UDP internally. so when the game happens i dont think out net will get effected too much.
