We have been using Earnie for a good few years now, but the Finance team have now made the jump and moved to Access Education. This has raised an issue with retaining the transnactional data held within the old software. Civica have quoted us a significant sum to give us what they call a 'read only' licence so that we can still have access to our data for the next 6 years. It doesn't seem there is a way to extract the data from Earnie ourselves (or I haven't yet been able to find a way), so at the moment we are faced with potentially paying Civica thousands of pounds to retain access to our data. What are other schools doing when changing financial and payroll systems – how do they deal with storing data for 6 years without paying considerable read-only license fees?

Can anyone recommend a good site or software to manage lettings for school facilities? Many thanks!

We have a Stone PC manufactured in 2012 that has developed a very odd problem with its network adapter and I just wondered if anyone else has seen anything similar? Earlier in the week we noticed the PC was offline following our morning power-up. On investigating we found no issue with the cable or socket so started to look at the onboard NIC. We discovered that whenever the PC is switched on from cold, the NIC would never work (it would show in device manager as 'The device cannot start (Code 10)'), until the PC was restarted - after which it would come up ok and connect with no issues. Next day same again, PC would not connect on initial power up but work fine after a restart. The adapter is an INTEL 82579V model. We have tried various drivers (the current being one dated 26/7/2016), resetting/flashing the BIOS, even reimaging the PC - but it still exhibits the same behaviour with the network adapter. We have an entire IT suite full of these models which we will be replacing in Easter, but I am planning on using them in various other places around school - so just in case others started showing the same issue I was interested to see if anyone else has experienced anything like this and found the solution? For anyone using MDT to deploy Windows 10 Edu.. just wondering how you plan to proceed going forward? At the moment I have our MDT server set up to deploy 1809 using a stripped down wim image. My plan is to keep this version installed on the workstations, and continue to deploy it to any rebuilt/new workstations until Summer 2021. By this time 1809 will have fallen out of support with MS and I will then move to the new Win 10 version ("2009" or whatever it'll be called). I'm aware versions of MDT are somewhat backwards compatible, but if I leave it until early 2021 before starting to set up a new "Windows 10 2009" image I'm guessing I will then no longer be able to deploy our existing wim once I update MDT/ADK. As I'd rather keep all workstations on the same version of Windows 10 at any one time I'm wondering if its best to have two virtual build servers - one with 1809 MDT configured and the other I can constantly update for testing etc. Or is there any easier method? Am I making a rod for my own back by trying to keep everything on the same version?

After reading other threads on here, I decided to try setting it all up again using v10.5, hey-presto it is now working as expected.

Just in the early stages of experimenting with HAP+ and I'm getting exactly this issue as well. Test user can log in but map to %homedir% is not showing any files (it just has an animated banner scrolling across the top of the screen as if it is retrying). Can anyone update me on a fix for this? Many thanks.

Tried installing the update on one of our affected 1803 workstations and it still didn't map any printers. Oh well, it was worth a try..

Thanks for your response. The ATTO website has a driver for 10.8.5, I wondered if I did an in-place upgrade if it would retain that driver - but from what you're saying it won't. Oh well, it'll just have to upgrade it to Mountain Lion.

Hi All, I have a 2010 MacPro that looks like it will just be eligible to run High Sierra. It's currently running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and it has an ATTO PCI SAS driver that it uses for an external tape drive. My question is this: If I do an in-place upgrade and update the operating system to High Sierra 10.13.5, will it retain the ATTO driver from the earlier version - and if so would it probably still work? I tried doing a fresh install of 10.13.5 but the PCI SAS card wasn't even recognised, so had to roll it back to put the driver back on. Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Checking that again we are already applying the "High Performance" plan at Computer Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>System>Power Management>'Select an active power plan' Should I be using a different GPO as we still get the display sleeping after 60sec?

Apologies if this has been asked before, I have searched but didn't turn anything up. Has anyone found a way to stop - preferably via GPO - a Windows 10 machine from putting the display to sleep after 60 seconds whenever it is locked? I'm fine with it, but some staff are complaining about the extra time it's taking to wake up the screen before they can log back in. I mean we're talking mere seconds here, so it's obviously very serious! *Sarcasm mode cancelled*

Some of our Staff require external support from Civica using the LogmeIn Rescue website. We recently upgraded some machines to Windows 10 and have Applocker policies in place on our workstations. It’s doing it’s job but is obviously preventing the LogMeIn software from running within a browser - as the executable is trying to run from inside the user’s ‘temporary internet files’ folder. Does anyone know of a way to allow this program to run through Applocker? I wondered if LogMeIn Rescue has a setup file that I could permanently install on the workstation, making it allowable through Applocker path policies? Or perhaps someone has managed to allow it using digital signatures? Thanks in advance.

Apologies, maybe I didn't make it clear in my first post. Up 'til now I HAVE been using the full updates, I always decline the Delta versions, which is why I can't understand it doing one then the other...

Is it me or is the deployment of full Cumulative Updates for Server 2016 using WSUS just....weird? I have three 2016 servers all using WSUS. One of them will fail installing the CU each month (for the last three months) if I try and deploy it through WSUS. In the end I just download the setup file and install it at the server manually. In the last few weeks I've introduced two new 2016 servers onto the network and both times I've seen the following behaviour during the build - as in they install the December 2017 CU, restart, check with WSUS and show up as being 100% updated - then after a certain amount of time (a few hours/the next day) they'll suddenly 'see' the January 2018 CU and install that! Why is it insisting on installing the December update first? I thought the whole idea of the CU's was to just go with the latest one? And WHY is it reporting as being 100% to then backtrack after a certain amount of time to then install the next CU? I've decided with February's updates to try using the Delta version instead, hoping that this will deploy on my original 2016 server (and the other two) without issues. Has anyone else seen this behaviour with Server 2016 and WSUS?
