All our MFP are Olivetti, company we lease them from have to get all the parts from italy

Usually Mainframes, so maybe most don't know them. I used to recruit for them, back in the day

Yup. I had one of the last "Digital" branded servers at one point, to play around with as it was defunct from its original role. Beast of a box. They used real sheets of steel back then...

My original home PC I had bought was an Olivetti - P75 with 1gb HDD

 

Which worked for 24 hours before the disk died and it was returned to Staples promptly

 

I then had an Advantage 613E

Compaq was one of the 1st IBM clones, I was once told that the name came from (COM)patibility (A)nd (Q)uality although I've never know if it is true or not.

I was about to say Elonex but I'm amazed to see they are still going. I had hundreds of their PC's and servers about 20 years ago and used to enjoy watching Wimbledon games from their "executive" box from time to time...

At one point in the 1980's I was in a team that was evaluating PCs to be the recommended machine for the company for the next year or so.

One of the contenders was the "Bonsai Vanilla"

It turned out to be the best of the bunch (including IBM Compaq Honeywell ......) - however we had just had a disaster with Amstrad PCs and senior management refused to buy something with such a daft name

The original Digital Logo was blue before it went that manky maroon colour.

 

I worked for them for 19 years from Digital through Compaq to HP...... and then ended up in a school!

I had a Digital laptop - with built in trackball! - in fact I still have it somewhere.

I still have my PDP-8 handbook - a DEC machine for those who don't know. This was the era when computers had proper front panels.

used to work on PDP's (RSTS/E) and also PDPs hooked up to CAMAC equipment using CATY and CATEX languages.

 

An old Intel MDS using the ISIS operating system and Whitesmith's C

 

Also a GEC mini with the front panels that was used as an X25 Packet Switch

 

We also has a Systime (VAX clone) running a flavour of Unix

 

Later role use Wellfleet routers. Long gone. The days when US Robotics modems were the rage and Compuserve with it's dial in PoPs.

Mesh Computers.... But looks like they are still in business. I don't think that they was a big company but I remember my dad owning one. Does anyone else remember them?

Our first home PC (windoze at any rate) was from Mesh.

 

The RAM upgrade from 2Mb to 4Mb would have brought you a small car today!

I know they were brought out by Oracle but at my first job we had print servers from

 

I remember trying to get to grips with the Solaris OS that they ran, that was my first experience of a non Microsoft OS.

Novell is no more, part of the Micro Focus family these days. Netware, Groupwise, Zenworks all great products in their time

When I took up post in the Lancashire Schools' ICT Centre back in 2003 they let me choose my own laptop. Just to try my luck I chose the Evesham Voyager 64. The first X64 laptop available in the UK. It was an amazing spec and 'not cheap'.

And they actually bought it for me! It was a beast of a machine and I wish I'd took it with me when I left as it was still on a shelf in 2009. Mind you , the thing was a lump and a half!

 

 

I'm actually surprised they went under as they were one of the better UK brands out there at the time.

I had an Olivetti P120 with a 1GB HDD at home running Windows 95 as my home PC, was a massive thing compared to these days.

 

Elonex was used massive within the NHS trust I worked in, had some small compact PC's that lasted for ever, as did the monitors which eventually got swapped for 17" ones.

I used to work for Olivetti firstly in the central repair lab and then tech. support. They made all kinds of kit. Always nicely designed and a cool shade of grey not nicotine stain beige.

My first PC was an Olivetti Prodest PC1 8086 with twin 3.5 floppy disks.
