Plastic RCD Spur (1 Gang) Cover

Hi everyone,

 

We've got a 1 gang RCD spur in our kitchen (at school). It's level with a shelf used to store heavy tins and the kitchen staff keep inadvertently pushing the Test button with these peach tins, which trips the RCD and turns connected devices off.

 

Wondering if anyone's had a similar issue or knows a way to solve it? We've tried using a metal baking tray to cover the spur but as soon as they ran out of baking trays, they took this one and we were back to square one!

 

I'm thinking along the lines of the plastic protectors that go over fire call points. Does anyone know of a standardised one that fits any 1 gang faceplate?

Electric Peach 1 oz. Vodka

1/2 oz. Peach Schnapps

1/2 oz. Cranberry Juice

1/2 oz. Orange Juice

Lemon Slice

Maraschino Cherry

 

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend for 15-20 seconds until smooth. Pour over a highball glass filled with ice and garnish with a lemon slice and maraschino cherry.

Option 1: Could you not No more nails some wooden battens round the outside of the switch?

 

Thus making it not possible to switch it off by pushing a tray back into it.

 

Option 2: Move the shelf

I've come up with a list of things to do in order of importance:

 

1. Test Electric Peach recipe for effectiveness

2. Research @Boredguy 's suggestion further and potentially order

3. Invest in No More Nails and scrap wood if #2 fails.

 

Sadly I'm a bit concerned that I may have Peach tin curvature-related issues if I go with #3 so sit tight for an update. I can tell you're all on the edge of your seats.

I'd say move the shelf - I'd avoid covering it with anything to be honest before the Health and Safety gang arrive!

Here's an update much sooner than I expected.

 

I was walking to the kitchen to move offending peaches (which turned out to be plum halves anyway....) when I saw it there sitting on the table next to me... it had been there all along.... a pencil pot!

 

It looked suspiciously perfect in it's size, so I immediately decanted the pencils into another container and took the pot to the kitchen. Sure enough, it fits! And boy is it a good fit. No gaffer tape or blue tac involved. Sits on top of the RCD spur perfectly.

Not only has the pencil pot that I nicked been replaced by an old plastic drinking cup that the kids used to use, but I've found a hidden supply of these disused drinking cups-come-pencil pots for the next plum crisis the school faces.
