That is why they should be fixable at the road side, and why we should (as in France) be required to carry spares. On the Citroens above. I've had two Xantias. Really, on a modern car how hard is to monitor the current drain to each lamp with a sensor and tell me when a lamp is open circuit or short. Would be such a useful thing. Hey @witch if you're still bored at home maybe you could knock up a circuit to do this and interface to the car CANBUS system. You could make a fortune!

The cheaper/older one just has a warning light to say that a bulb is faulty. The newer one has a matrix display and shows me a diagram of which one it is (including trailer board when connected). In the former, I'm pretty sure the car knows - it's just part of their product differentiation to convince you to buy more expensive brands. The Saab I had in 1998 also did this. That was also the most comfortable car I've ever owned - all down to the seats. When it died, I was tempted to mount them on castors as desk chairs Dream cars: Google/Apple car - driving on roads is boring - plus something low, light with good handling but fairly low power and grip to drive on the track so that I can drive up to the limit of the car and my skill. Maybe a Caterham 7 160...

Except when i lost control in the ice at 10mph on Saturday and and damaged my track rod end. Still, being a fast ford it costs £50 for parts and labour.

Though I'm not sure if i could be bothered with having to hunt for premium fuel all the time. That got old fast when the only local was a shell.

From what ive heard autopilot is a misnomer is basically very clever adaptive cruise control given a misleading name

Yes its amasing now, but what'll it be like in 5-10 years. In fact I have the same worries about any car. Just how well will those infotainment devices hold up? And how much of a distraction do they bring to driving. I like my big knobs (heh) with lots of tactile feedback so I can change the settings without taking my eyes off the road. A touchscreen doesn't have that. In fact, when it comes to cars I'm the exact opposite of all other gadgets. I want less technology, not more. Give me a volume up and down, radio station select/aux select, and a knob for the heating.

Give me a volume up and down, radio station select/aux select, and a knob for the heating. well as an example the ecu for old astra gte's is worth more than the car i believe. the tesla is a great tech demo but i just dont "want" one (not that if someone gave me one i wouldnt be happy) i also thing in car touchscreens are a stupid idea yes lets replace simple controls i can change without looking and that give obvious feedback with a touchscreen that dosent and the layout can be changed Edited February 5, 2016 by sted

Unfortunately my satnav is a touch screen but I have never seen one that isn't
