Virgin home internet speed upgrade 2016. When and how fast?

Like many of you out there I got the letter from Virgin in the Autumn notifying me about the free speed upgrade due 'in the near future'.

Does anyone know when this is to happen and what speeds customers will be getting?

I'm on the base 50Mbps and will be interested to see what I'm going to get, especially as my kids are now streaming films and doing online gaming all whilst we are doing the same.

Log in to my virgin media - my upgrade appears due by end of feb 200Mb (though we don't touch anywhere near that).

50->70

100->150

and 152->200

 

But there was "talk" about 300Mb last year but not sure if that was dropped seeing the 200 was announced after that

I'm on 50mbps which is being upgraded to 70mbps. However to get it you need to login to my.virginmedia.com and actually place an order for your free upgrade. Just done mine this morning.

A while ago now I told Virgin that I was fed up with frequent outages and long waits for resolutions. I told them that I would be taking my business elsewhere. This was no idle threat as I fully intended to move. I was moved on to a supervisor who told me that they would treble my connection speed, give me free calls [not mobile, or premium numbers] and add to my TV package. I agreed that they could do this and I would see how things went. Now with the complimentary period over and with us paying what other customers pay for the same package we haven't had an outage since.

 

I have had the letter about a speed increase but I don't know when it will be: Sometime after the Summer seems to ring a bell for me.

i got upgraded to 200mb last October, i get 206-216 mb all the time now.

I got an upgrade to 150 from 100 which I was going to get later this year however since I've had so many issues with my connection they gave it me early. Only problem is I never really get that speed and I'm almost always running lower than 100 at something like 60-70. I also have terrible latency issues and for some reason torrent sessions on virgin media are a pain to deal with since any sort of torrent session murders the bandwidth so when one of my games that updates uses a torrent session decides to update I have to kiss goodbye to being able to stream anything for a while

Really pee's me off. I got told it was going to be late November (Great. Speed upgrade on my birthday) Then it went to December. Then January now its March. They are taking the mick. They want to soften the blow of a bill rise with an upgrade but never get you the upgrade. I contacted them via facebook and they just fobbed me off. Its alright we have only been a customer for 5+ years. *sigh*

This has reminded me that I need to phone Virgin Media again. The £1.75 price increase actually turned into a £7.75 increase because the £6 'loyalty discount' I negotiated last time ended in November. Apparently, I'm scheduled to upgrade to 70 in April. I'm quite happy with the 30Mbps I'm on, thankee, now put my bill back down to £20 a month, please. Edited January 8, 2016 by StevieM

Just checked my account and it says we're being upgraded from 60mbps > 150mbps sometime between April and June 2016. Not too shabby!

I dread to think. Mine was supposed to be done in October, then when checking in October it was pushed back until February. Went from 50 to 100 last time.

I just checked this online and it tells me my upgrade is ready now 50 to 70, but when I sign in there is nowhere to order it.

Had my 50 - 70 upgrade weeks ago and its been very solid. Its worth bearing in mind that if you want to haggle about the price, its best to do this BEFORE you sign for the upgrade - as this is regarded as the start of a new 12 month agreement and you may get charged if you try and leave during it - which weakens your bargaining stance!

Not for me, when I placed the order for the upgrade it specifically stated that there was no new contract term. I rang up after the upgrade happened to complain about the price rise and got a £10 a month off the bill and no price rises for 18 months.

Hmmm... I need to ring VM soon. It seems that I'm paying way more than everyone else seems to, and now that newsgroup access is severely limited I'm not sure I need 152MB, let alone 200.

Yeah - its always worth a haggle - cut a load off my bill - you can use that to buy access to some decent news servers - like tweaknews

To be honest, I hardly use the Internet at home. I watch, perhaps, 2-3 films/concerts a week and that's pretty much it. The occasional bit of web-browsing I can do on my phone. I didn't even own a computer until just before Christmas. That's why I begrudge paying £28 a month.

I got upgraded to 200Mbps in October 2015, however, seeing as my area has high utilisation of over 90%, it's pretty pointless to me at the moment!

Their TV advert annoys me. Why advertise that you can get 200mb by showing someone watching a couple of YouTube clips which would probably work on a 2mb feed?
