Domo Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Ah, good old "Magical Companion Ammo" Well they have magic ammo for their main weapon >.<
Grey-gear Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Anyone else find themselves sing the Iron man tune every time they get into power Armour?
Garacesh Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Anyone else find themselves sing the Iron man tune every time they get into power Armour? Not quite, but I have mused how awesome the power armour would be with rocket boots
Arreks Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 There is something magical about commanding someone to get into power armor next to you and then getting in power armor yourself and being in sync with the other person. I want a mod that lets me get more followers so I can have a squad of power armor users..
Garacesh Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 There is something magical about commanding someone to get into power armor next to you and then getting in power armor yourself and being in sync with the other person. Please tell me there's a glitch that lets Dogmeat use it?
LiamH Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 Still running with dogmeat, took the lone wanderer perk since companions usually annoy me anyway. He is handy to have around to lemming into Super Mutant bombers if you cant get a clear shot on their arm.
Duranis Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Oh dear.... I accidentally fallout'ed until 4am this morning. To be fair my boy was playing it until 8.30 and then Walking Dead was on so didn't get started on it until about 10.30. 6ish hours played and so far I have only just got the people back to sanctuary... must.... explore(loot)... every....thing... Really enjoying it. I can see why people didn't like the perk/skill changes but I actually think it works quite well. The dialogue options do seem fairly weak but hoping they get better. The armor and weapon crafting along with the base building are a massive addition (no matter how clunky the UI is) and I can see myself spending a LONG time just collecting and painting up power armor variations.
thomvickers Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Loving it, played about 20 hours so far. Got to level 14 last night. Being deliberately sparse with my skill points, spreading them around, sampling a little bit of everything but I've decided that power armor is not for me. I found the first few levels (1-5) very easy, the next few (6-10) brutally difficult at times then things started getting easier as I upgraded my guns & got better at sneaking. My hints thus far; 1. Spend at least some of your upgrade points on the +20% damage with . It's boring but you need it. 2. Go back to drop off all your junk often, you'll be filling up your inventory fast. Subsequently, don't start with a very low strength score, you'll regret it. 3. Watch out for mercs with big boys, they will literally nuke you in the face from 5yds with no sense of self-preservation. Find the high ground with them so when they shoot & miss it doesn't hit the ground right behind you & kill you anyway. 4. Quicksave often. 5. Make use of mines, chems, terrain. The wasteland is no place for honourable duelling! 6. Save your stimpacks for actual injury where possible, eat food, drink water or nuka cola the rest of the time. These can't cure your broken limbs. 7. If you're overloaded, use a buffout so you're unencumbered then you can fast travel back to your stash. 8. As has already been said, shoot them IN THE FACE. It works well, unsurprisingly. 9. Deathclaws... just don't unless you've got ammo to burn, they're not really worth the effort it takes. 10. Rapid Fire guns are a great way to waste ammo. Yet to find a reason to use one.
localzuk Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 My 3 favourite weapons so far: The original 10MM gun, but modded so it has a longer barrel, glow sights and a comfort grip. A bolt action pipe sniper rifle Sledgehammer The latter 2 are 1 hit kills for raiders at my level (only at level 6 at the moment). Sniper rifles are awesome. Just sit back, sneak and shoot someone in the face.
Duranis Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) Being deliberately sparse with my skill points, spreading them around, sampling a little bit of everything but I've decided that power armor is not for me. How are you finding not using power armor? One of my only concerns is that it might end up being a "Must Have" for a good chunk of the game. I have always played the super stealthy, snipe them from 5 miles away class so prefer to wear light armor but with the power armor being such a big thing in this game was worried it might be something that is expected you will use. So far the only time I have used it was jumping in it to fast travel back to Sanctuary. I killed the Raiders and the Deathclaw from the roof as I didn't want to dent up my new armor or waste the minigun ammo Edited November 17, 2015 by Duranis
Garacesh Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I killed the Raiders and the Deathclaw from the roof as I didn't want to dent up my new armor or waste the minigun ammo I didn't. Jumping off a tall roof in power armour looks badass enough to do. And since I expected that the Minutemen would want the power armour (they certainly gave that impression) once I was done with it, I didn't mind denting it up. They made it seem like I get the minigun, they get the power armour. Fair deal. But then they were just like "kthx see you in Sanctuary." and I was like "Do you not want this, then? A'ight, works for me!" I've currently got a Raider power armour head and chest, and a unique chest that I got from a side-quest. I'm not really using the power armour much, I'm very much keeping it to go and pick up if I have to go into an area for whatever reason and get completely dominated. I do have two sets, though.. lol.

I killed the Raiders and the Deathclaw from the roof as I didn't want to dent up my new armor or waste the minigun ammo Not really had any issues. Had a few enemies that forced me to reload & try again with different tactics. Nice thing is, if I do get to that point where I need to use it, I've got enough power cores to go absolutely nuts with it! I actually managed to find some very good military armour (non-power). Took me ages to realise that armour goes over rather than instead of clothing. There was only one fight I had to use some really cheesy tactics (basically involving lots of running & hiding) but that's because the game forced a cutscene conversation immediately after entering an area then a nasty close-up fight with heavy-weapon-equipped raiders. I figured if the game would be unfair to me, I'd be unfair right back at it!
Arreks Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) FYI, jetpacks and landing on top of people in power armor is THE BEST THING EVER Now I've completed the game and I'm lvl 30~something, I've got over 35 fusion cores and two points into the perk that reduces the speed at which cores deplete. I'm hardly ever actually out of my power armor now, I've got a T-60E set with jetpack and modifications for myself and a T-60D set for my companion Cait. Edited November 17, 2015 by Arreks
Garacesh Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I actually managed to find some very good military armour (non-power). Took me ages to realise that armour goes over rather than instead of clothing. Not always. Some armour is full-body and doesn't allow armour 'segments' on top.. The Cage Armour I'm using is like that. Also annoyingly isn't upgradable or I don't have the skills to upgrade it yet. FYI, jetpacks and landing on top of people in power armor is THE BEST THING EVER Makes me think of the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel trailer.. OKAY YOU CAN TOTALLY CALL IT A BUTT-SLAM!
JJonas Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Sneaking up behind someone in power armour and pick pocketing the power core disables the armour. If a room is locked but you can see a seat inside the room that gives the sit down option, you can sit in it and you will be magically transported inside the locked room.
Duranis Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Sneaking up behind someone in power armour and pick pocketing the power core disables the armour. Handy to know. If a room is locked but you can see a seat inside the room that gives the sit down option, you can sit in it and you will be magically transported inside the locked room. I can see this leading to a situation were you end up stuck inside a locked room
LiamH Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 You can still do the sneaky thing in power armour which i find comical, a guy in a tank suit hiding behind a petunia. I have mainly gone for the sniper/stealth approach, but i do have a nice double barreled shot gun for when fecal matter hits the rotary impeller. One time stands out after a dialog when you start up in the guys face and he goes to stealth boy, Vats, double headshot and hes dead before he can hit the button.
GuyJD Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 One time stands out after a dialog when you start up in the guys face and he goes to stealth boy, Vats, double headshot and hes dead before he can hit the button.DOH! I completely forgot about VATS in that situation, I went with 3 Frag grenades at his feet and a shotgun to the face as the point blank grenades didn't finish him off, I did find it extremely amusing that I could throw 3 grenades at his feet and neither him or his cronies batted an eyelid until they went off.
localzuk Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I upgraded my Laser Musket to 3 crank. In sneak, it can take down a gun turret in one shot cranked the 3 times.
Garacesh Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I upgraded my Laser Musket to 3 crank. In sneak, it can take down a gun turret in one shot cranked the 3 times. I found a legendary raider (seriously.. so many legendary things.. It kinda takes the fun out of having the 'ultimate weapons'.. I much preferred it when you would find special versions in specific locations) that got me a crank rifle that deals more damage, but also does twice the amount of damage if they're on full health. So that's nice. Edit: I also have a 10mm pistol that deals 15 points of AOE fire damage with each shot. Which is awesome. Though my housemate found a Junkie Rifle that did more damage the more withdrawal symptoms you were suffering. Wuuut.

It's SO over powered xD
Garacesh Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 O.o just a bit. Never been a shotgun fan, though. Pistols, sure. Rifles? Maybe. Snipey-stuff? Definitely. But if something's close enough to use a shotgun, I dun'goof'd. Amusingly, I found armour for Dogmeat Not power armour, though I bet that'll get modded in soon lol
Tesla Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 So, basically, two people playing are unlikely to find the same kind of guns, and you may get lucky? Or May not? sounds good.
localzuk Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Shotguns are a great "last chance" weapon. Being attacked by a ghoul? Can't hit em with your sledgehammer? BLAM BLAM!
