Domo Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 What do you guys think of the difficulty? honestly i'm playing on normal, and i've still died a bunch of times. (especially at a certain part containing many.. many ghouls) It really seems like you take a lot of damage from everything. Not complaining but i wouldn't want to play on the hardest difficulty xD
Garacesh Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Feral Ghouls I had no issue with (I can't remember the town but I know where you're on about..) - but like I said. Aiming for the face is important! Amusingly the Ghouls ripped apart my housemate. Apparently his Dogmeat is lazy and doesn't do much lol. I've died twice now. Each time was landmine-based They really do hurt!
Tesla Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I struggle on normal on Fallout 3! Especially anything DLC related (the Upgraded Raiders, can't remember their name, on the DLC that you get to on a boat..) God knows how i'd do at Fallout 4.
CAM Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I managed to lose Dogmeat, ended up in a town full of ghouls and raiders and got eviscerated by explosives. It's...hard. Has anyone got Fallout 4 working with Shadowplay btw?
Tesla Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I never found the dog on the third one either.......My other half went to look at the edition with the Pip Boy etc from Game (for xmas), she told me she doesn't love me that much!!! 3
Garacesh Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I managed to lose Dogmeat, ended up in a town full of ghouls and raiders and got eviscerated by explosives. He'll be wounded somewhere, you need to find him and whack a stimpak in him. Has anyone got Fallout 4 working with Shadowplay btw? I don't use it, but I do use Plays.TV, which does work, if you're looking to record. I don't know why. It's not like I've uploaded anything to YouTube or such. I never found the dog on the third one either.......My other half went to look at the edition with the Pip Boy etc from Game (for xmas), she told me she doesn't love me that much!!! 3 I never had Dogmeat in F3 either! The Pip Boy edition wasn't worth what they were asking for it, tbh. Not to me anyhow.
Arreks Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I lost Dogmeat as well, had to use console moveto to bring him back don't use him anymore anyway, got Preston in a suit of power armour. Karma system is gone but companions can like/dislike you which will affect things.. in terms of degradation, the only degradation in-game is the power armour. I agree that it's a bit weird not repairing armour etc but I've already become used to it, plus ammo is a lot harder to find now than in previous games (and explosive damage is a lot higher so you can die from missiles etc even on low difficulties). It's still an incredibly fun game, I doubt anyone who enjoyed previous Bethesda games would dislike this one and if they do they're lying to themselves.
LiamH Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 Now people have had some time to play more what are your thoughts? I have held off buying it as the removal of the SPECIAL system, karma and an apparently very linear progression (very little consequences no matter what options you pick the results end up the same) really put me off. The lack of weapon degrading seems a bit of a step back as well. One of the things I liked in previous fallout games (especially more early in the game) was when you had some awesome gun but only saved it for special occasions as you didn't have anything to repair it with. Seems like now once you have some decent guns the only thing limiting their use is ammo. Now it could be all of this is true and the game is still awesome (I hope) but it is enough that I think I will maybe wait a bit for a price drop and mod support. Is it as dumbed down as it seems (compared to previous FO games)? Still loving it here. SPECIAL system is still in place, its basically the same just laid out differently, I quite like the new way it is done, it really seems to be a nice balance of increasing your SPECIAL stats and taking a perk. Karma is more individual now, rather than have an overarching good/bad vibe going on it feels like its tied to individuals and factions. You get dragon age type "Bob approves greatly" messages that come up when you take certain dialog options. The missions are not linear from what I have noticed, Loads of POI's on the map and free to just wonder off and have fun. Some perks are locked behind a linear level/SPECIAL cap, but i think this adds to the character building, i went high perception/agility since i like sniping and stealthiness in these games but i found myself taking other perks which means i have been putting points into charisma. Weapons don't degrade, but I feel like they moved some of that aspect of the gameplay to ammo supply, you still need to choose when its worth using your sniper of your pistol. Anyone else using dogmeat as a suicide super mutant huger? whenever I see one i just send him in the lemming and kill as much as possible, I feel quite bad about it afterwards!
flyinghaggis Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) I'm finding myself pretty much agreeing with this guys review. It's kinda buggy/janky, the graphics are devicedly average, the PC port is a bit shoddy, the control setup on mouse/keyboard is rubbish and, so far it isn't much improved over what Skyrim offered 4 years ago in terms of the game engine and features. It does feel like Bethesda were just playing it a bit too safe and haven't really moved things on much. However, it's Fallout and a Bethesda open world RPG so I'm still really enjoying it Edited November 14, 2015 by flyinghaggis
Duranis Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I finally caved in and bought it on xbox one last night. I was going to get it on PC but my rig is getting a little old now so wasn't sure how well it would run. Also both my boys wanted to play it so at least this way it is shared with my oldest boys xbox one so basically got 2 copies for the price of 1. Was downloading last night so hopefully will be able to get on to it tonight (my Mrs didn't think it would be a good idea to call in sick with "radiation poisoning" so I could play it today).
NB9457 Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Took me ages to kill the mireleks or whatever they're called, I just kept dying! Best option seemed to running in the walls and hiding in there! I got a bit bored the over night to, so I enabled god mode and built a super treehouse fort in Sanctuary and it is epic. Think I've spent more time creating base camps so far haha
Arreks Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I was enjoying settlements until I realised it was just repeating the same thing over and over again, I've got over 10 settlements and I'm sick of them! my two main ones are now the Castle and Boston Airport. I've been spending most of my time collecting power armor, it's so cool! I've got like 6 different sets now Also got Cait instead after Preston kept making romantic advances on me despite me shooing him away. She's much better and can pick pretty much any lock! Cool screenshot I took:

I've got like 6 different sets now I currently have two sets sat in Sanctuary, one with the gaudy red-and-black flames paintjob and the unique chestplate from one of the side-quests.. I believe (according to my housemate) you can just tell all settlers to pack up and move out, so you can just shift everybody to one settlement and look after them there

I believe (according to my housemate) you can just tell all settlers to pack up and move out, so you can just shift everybody to one settlement and look after them there Go into Workshop mode and highlight the settler, there should be a key prompt to "Move". I know it's there for Companions, should be the same for Settlers. I'm currently sat at about 50 hours and I think I'm maybe 1/4 through the main story. Got 6 sets of Power Armor at Red Rocket, full legendary armor / weapons (playing on Very hard, Legendaries. Legendaries everywhere.) and running with Curie as companion. Wondering if this is going to be like Skyrim for me, 120+ hours played, never finished the main story.
GuyJD Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I picked it up on Saturday, played maybe 8 hours so far, an hour or so on the main story and the rest on building and side quests. I'm loving it so far, this is definitely going to take as much of my life as Fallout 3 did.
Domo Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I've been enjoying the game over the weekend (played about 35 hours so far, or so steam says) Completed the main story 30 hours in as i felt i needed to. I did think it was quite short a quest line to be honest. The power armour seems to be all over the place, i have suits just scattered around the place. Might have to gather them up and make a display at one of my settlements for them, that would be cool... (I don't really use the power armour that much, i much prefer my Minutemen General getup) Ditched my dog for Piper as well as he was extremely stupid, and at least piper attempts to attack things Also does anyone know if you can make your companions use different weapons? I've given Piper loads of weapons and equipped them on her but she just defaults back to her pistol. What's everyones favourite companion so far anyway? I like piper as when you get her approval rating maxed she gives you a pretty good perk. Also a heads up, if there's any fighting at yor settlements and you use landmines, pick the unused ones up afterwards. I think i've had all my settlers turn hostile on me about 3 times after witnessing one of them being obliterated by a leftover bottlecap mine :l
JJonas Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Misuse of the You're SPECIAL book I believe this will only work if you never picked the book up. I did so I am not in a position to try it. When you go back to your house after you leave the vault pick up Dogmeat first. Go to Shauns room and you will see the book on the floor. Tell Dogmeat to pick it up. When he stoops down pick it up yourself. You will have the You're SPECIAL book and Dogmeat will drop another one at your feet. Repeat until you have enough points for the perks you want.
GuyJD Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I lost Dogmeat, I was attacking some raiders at a satellite station and decided it was a bit dangerous so sent him home to Sanctuary and when I've gone back there he's nowhere to be found

They never run out of ammo for their default gun

Tesla Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Literally did not think of that :l wow lmao thanks HERE, HAVE THIS AMAZING POSSIBLY LIFE SAVING GUN, BUT HAVE NO AMMO FOR IT!
caffrey Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I just lost my weekend to this game, and I upgraded to a 970 because of it (I was considering going console but decided on a gpu upgrade) Despite the bugs (Had a few crashes) and the stupid dog getting in my way all the time, I'm loving it
Garacesh Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Literally did not think of that :l wow lmao thanks Ah, good old "Magical Companion Ammo"
Arreks Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 In terms of equipping things on followers, just put it on their inventory then click "T" or whatever the equip button is, this will force them to use it :3
