You may already be aware of this but you can get adhesive from cooking stations > utility > vegetable starch, forget exactly the ingredients but all can be grown and harvested on settlements and with a bit of effort should make your adhesive woe's a thing of the past.

3 Corn, 3 Mutfruit, 3 Tato and 1 Purified Water. That's how I've kept myself in Adhesive since day one, it'd be a nightmare without.

Adhesive isn't my problem, duct tape is literally everywhere. It's Fibre Optics and Nuclear Material that I'm having to scrounge - I even had to buy some! Oh, the horror..

Do you have the gardening mod? Allows you to have planters so you can stack the plants in a greenhouse. I got it and it works a charm.

I'm sure you've seen the gif of dogmeat running through a corridor of laser tripwires? haven't done this myself but I believe you can disarm them for fibre optics each time you enter that area.

Other than that get the scavenger (think its called that) perk to level 2 asap, highlights all the items in game that contain whatever you tag, since I got it I've not really struggled finding anything its a real eye opener when you see all the things that you would have missed otherwise.

Fallout 4 finally finished downloading (after 1 week)! My most important quest now - I'd like my character to look like something other than a member of Village People.

I made my housemate pre-load it because he bought it on Steam, and then I just stole all his game files :D Installed in <5 minutes.

Speaking of Character creation, you get to create two characters. The one you select is the character you play as, but the other character does have a role, so it's worth customising them too.

Nah, mod free on my first play through, just got a fenced off area in Sanctuary and I've got Abernathy Farm working on it too.

Hmm...good to know. Will it transfer between workbenches?

If you have a trade route (level 2 perk local leader iirc), doesn't have to be direct just connected to your "network" guns and food wont be shared but junk will.

Think I may need to restart my character. I got a lot of settlements hating me thanks to dogmeat...

Dogmeat is passive until they aggress you (either by being aggressive to you by default, i.e. Raiders) or you make them aggress you (shoot them, steal from them whilst they can see you..)

Has anyone found either a good mod, or a good way, to scrap stuff that's junk or just not useful, without having to drop it on the floor near a workstation?

Spent a while doing that too, weapons can be scrapped at the weapons workbench and armour at the armour one but would suggest waiting until you get the perk that allows you to get springs etc from them before doing so (store them in the workstation) unless they're legendary in which case they can't be scrapped, I throw them on companions or in the workstation. Junk items as someone else said just transfer into workstation and are broken down as required.

losing the settlements

'nother hint: Be very careful using mines to defend your settlements :p Most of the time your settlers go on a wander and end up in bits. Apparently they're not too keen on spontaneous disassembly..

My Sanctuary has 2 floodlights, 2 guard posts, 3 laser turrets, 2 regular turrets, and d00ds with guns. They seem to be able to keep themselves happy.

Don't forget, you can give your settlers weapons and armour just like companions!

I run it on my iPad. Very useful - can quickly switch weapons on it whilst still shooting in game! Or quickly use a stimpack etc...

The internal map seems broken though, just get a fuzzy mess.
